Meh. This was another one that I chalk up to reading because of therapy (not because it was suggested, but it was mentioned and I’m a curious person). I have mixed feelings about it: it made for some interesting conversations with friends and it does have some good points, but overall I think it is a little too simplistic and makes men sound like dumb creatures who can’t think for themselves and only want sex (which is the thing that pisses me off most about “the patriarchy”). That said, I now understand what it means to “play games” in dating, because this was essentially the playbook—manipulation 101.

Ultimately, I liked the sections about having self respect and not being a doormat in a relationship or in life generally, but I had to just skim the rest by about 30% in because it was sort of annoying me how silly and antiquated the examples of “good relationships” were and how much the author contradicted herself. Like, “play dumb so he thinks he’s in charge”, but also, “be independent and never let him think you’re emotional”…the math ain’t mathing here.

TLDR: I think I need a break from self help/dating books for a minute.

Im a little embarrassed I liked this as much as I did. Probably promotes some feminist viewpoints which perpetuate the patriarchy oops. Of course I like things that validate my own perception of the world, right?

Read it and start to value yourself, because you deserve it.

I did not like this book and definitely wasn’t for me. It was very American and I tend to dislike this kind of ‘self-helpbooks’. I will never advise a lot of the weird advises given by this author because I just don’t believe it will work. I don’t feel like testing it either. Just act the way you truly are, trust yourself and know your worth ❤️

I couldn't finish this book because it sounded like it was written by a former nice girl who got burned by men

This is the worst book I have ever read in my life. I read it to write a paper on gender stereotypes in relationship advice books and boy did this deliver. This book teaches women to play mind games and gives the worst advice possible. This book explains that you want men to think they have the power in the relationship while really holding all the power behind the scenes. It encourages lack of communication and not showing your partner that you actually care about them. Every man she interviewed for this book is an asshole. Some advice were the craziest things I had ever heard. I understand that some men might agree with what is said in this book but I have personally never met a man that believes these things. This book teaches women how to be pretty terrible while dating terrible men. There were many problematic statements and advice given in this book. Not all advice was necessarily wrong but how she explains it or describes it is. If I could rate it zero stars I would.

Meaningless anecdotes+ no science and no statistics behind the principles. Just the opinion of one lady. If men love bitches, I don't want men.
