There are many things I loved about this book. It is simple, yet complex. It is practical, yet poetic. I have started implementing some of the habits, and already I see how they help to turn the rhythm of your life more towards God and others and away from self.

Having worked as a lawyer myself, I appreciated the references to the author's job and the practical implications of these habits in that context. It's hard for me to gauge, however, whether a non-lawyer might have more of a "we GET it, you're a LAWYER" reaction. :)

The one caveat I have about this book--and it is a big one--is that I do not think it would be appropriate for someone who is currently struggling with an eating disorder or in recovery from disordered eating. One of the weekly habits is fasting--which I am all for--but some of the ways it is discussed and the phraseology both in the main chapter and in the resources at the back of the book made me cringe. As someone who has recovered from an eating disorder, I am particularly sensitive to how Christians speak about food, body, and health, and there were a number of statements that could have detrimental impacts on a believer who struggles in this area.

Overall, a good read which provides a beautiful vision of the significance of habits and a practical and doable approach to thoughtfully structuring your spiritual formation.

Excellent practical reminders for habit formation. The writing style was a bit distracting at some points but overall a very practically helpful book.

I did not read cover to cover, but I’m counting this book as read.

It rehashes most of what we already know about our needs to change our life. Change your habits. Limit your media & tech. Increase alone time and time with authentic life giving community. Spend time in the Word.

It packages it as a new revelation which it is not.

Also the author is very long winded. Perhaps because he wanted the book to look more like a novel and less like a pamphlet (which it could easily be)

I read about half of this, then skimmed the remaining advice. The author's life is too different from mine, I had a hard time relating.
