The 1st half of the book the author again develops more character relationships and deeps their relationships together. The 2nd half of the book is quite the page turner, very intriguing and suprising twists. Careful it does have a cliff hanger ending so make sure to have the 3rd book handy.

My second reread...and also the second Ranger's Apprentice book!

I forgot about quite a lot that happens in this book. For starters, I forgot about classic and important characters like Evenlyn
AKA Cassandra, Princess of Araluen
and Erak. I also forgot about how much occurs in this book!
The whole Morgarath arc finishes up in just two books, but younger me definitely thought it lasted quite longer! The showdown between Horace and Morgarath was just as intense as I remember, and it stung to see Will and Cassandra whisked away while Halt couldn't do anything 😥

I've been enjoying my reread of the series so far! I think I'll probably continue the series into next year, if not sneak another book before the year is up!

The Burning Bridge is better than the first one in my opinion. I think this series is just a comfort series to me at this point and I like almost everything about it. I like the Robin-Nightwing-Batman-esque dynamic between Will, Gillian, and Halt (and I guess in this analogy Horace would be Superman kind of?), and the character interactions are what make these books. Seeing them joke around with each other really gets you attached to them and I think that Flanagan is great at succinctly describing the story in a clear and easy to understand way and I like his writing for it’s commitment to storytelling first and foremost (likely why I like Stephen King so much). The first book had almost no female characters and I’m also glad we get one in Evanlyn because I like her a lot. The plot armor is a little insane near the end but that’s okay because I’m having fun. I think if you don’t like this series you might be kind of insane so please give it a go! I’m so excited to read the next one.
