I have never read anything as beautiful and immersive as Jandy Nelson’s writing in my life and I don’t think I ever will again

I am just too cynical for these teen chick lit books. Srsly, these kids swoon over their love being SO BIG and FOREVER and come on, they'll be broken up by the time they leave for college. It doesn't even feel escapist for me.

JUST finished reading this book & my god it is beautiful. I don't even know how or what to say because I loved it so much. Admittedly, at first I felt like I couldn't really feel the emotion of Lennie even though she was supposed to be sad and grieving over her sisters death. But as I got further into the book I realized, or have come to the idea that, the author made it that way on purpose. Lennie was hiding her true feelings and grief, bottling it up, keeping it sort of in the background because she couldn't deal with the pain. But as the book progressed you can really feel the emotional turmoil she's going through. Yes I was like WTF when she began hooking up with her sisters boyfriend, but I came to understand why they felt so connected. And I felt so sorry for both of them. I love the characters in this book, I think they are well developed but not overly described. You get a sense of their quirks. I love Joe to no end. He actually reminds me of a certain person in my life. I really connected with Lennie about her shame and guilt of her mistakes she made against Joe. But her determination and courage was very inspiring. I think this is a beautiful story. One not only of loss and grief of a loved one but also of self discovery and living life not just being alive. Through death Lennie finds life and love. Anything is possible and even though not everything in life is wonderful, it is beautiful all the same and thus, "the sky is everywhere," beginning at your feet.

That end though!!! For me personally, not as good as I'll Give You The Sun but there was no doubt in my mind that this was still a 5 star read!

I'd give it all the stars, including the sun, and those light years away not visible on Earth's sky, if only goodreads had that option

I recently reread this book and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I get that cheating is wrong but in a way I oddly do get why Lennie and Toby did what they did. Like their grief just manifested in a weird way. I feel what Joe did with collecting the poems was a bit odd since he was kind of invading her privacy in a way. I understand that she kind of left it there so anyone could read it but she did it with the knowledge that they wouldn’t know it was her. It just feels so invasive as she was writing her thoughts and letting them go. I guess why I find it so invasive is that he witnessed it but was nosy enough to find what she wrote. Anyway, it was a fun read as Jandy Nelson’s writing style is so smooth and easy to read, and the story and its characters were entertaining.
