I loved this book, but while I understand the ML's bad actions at the beginning of the book- it was a little extreme and I felt really uncomfortable reading about it. I almost put this book down because of how dub-con it felt, even at the point right before their bonding.

BUT

He is a good guy at heart, and he genuinely feels remorse for his actions (and she not only grows a spine under his attention she also learns not to take his shit).

I love both the ML and the FL, but know he is really messed up in the first half of the book- half mad. He grows and realizes just how bad his behavior was, but please know it doesn't erase what he did and that he will make it up to her every day for the rest of their lives.

I picked this up & devoured it in a day. A quick fun read with a new look on the usual vampire vs werewolf story.

A Hunger Like No Other was absolutely thrilling! It was intense, entertaining, and drama-filled. I loved all the emotion, humor, and passion between Emma and Lachlain and the off-the-charts chemistry they shared. There was an excellent push and pull between them as their feelings grew and they came together. It was so exciting to read!

I loved the undeniable desire and fierceness between Lachlain and Emma. I loved watching Emma grow from a timid girl to a seriously kick-ass woman who owned who she was. There were so many fantastic scenes between these two with clever dialogue, I couldn’t get enough. I loved learning about the Laykae and how they find their mate, and Lachlain’s pursuit of Emma.

The story moved at a great pace and had a phenomenal build. There was never a time I wanted to put it down. I loved the fun moments that were laced throughout the story as well as the emotional ones. I loved all the details of the Immortals After Dark world, the lore, all the different factions and politics, and the rich history it's steeped with. It was all so fascinating. I enjoyed all the characters that were introduced and am thrilled to find out where it all will go. The Valkyrie women were priceless, I love their individual personalities and the wit they brought to the story. I liked meeting Lachlain’s brother and friends and hints of what's to come.

This story is what I love about PNR. The intensity, the drama, the entertainment value, and the passion mixed with a seriously extensive and detailed world to lose yourself in. This series is my new addiction.

Massive CW: dubious consent at best, rape at worst, kidnapping, lots of violence as supernatural creatures

Listen: This world building is more interesting.

Lachlain is an awful hero. I wasn't even convinced he was hot because we didn't get proper appreciation of his looks. If he has PTSD, then it could've been nuanced.

Neither him or Emma hit the character mark on identification. For a still inexplicable reason, Emma hadn't even held a man's hand, let alone kissed one, before Lachlain. The never having sex is fine for her being tied to her vampire stuff.

(But also they have sex that first time when he fingers her and she gives him a handjob, unless you read it as rape. All the other consensual sex is sex, not just when he finally puts his giant dick in her vag.)

I liked the parts about Lachlain learning about the world. I liked his relationship with Bowe and Harmann. Emma was much better when we learned what she liked about life, like tell me more about this pop culture degree, than all her worries around losing control.

Emma has to relive Lachlain's memories for these two to connect. And kill her father.

This was published in 2006, and yeah, the non-con assault alpha male stuff doesn't surprise me, just bored me and made me consider if I was DNF with this book and if I would continue to read the series.

Looks like the other books don't have the same issues, and there's at least one book with a queer couple. (Sorry, authors, immortals would never be all cishet.) So I will continue on.

Same star rating as my initial read years ago - 3 stars.

I've enjoyed the world building in this series so far and I adore Laclain. I just can't stand the speech patterns of the Valkyries. Urgh....it's just too "pop culture-ish" for me. I think it takes away from the storytelling & definitely minimizes my enjoyment. But I also realize & appreciate that it was purposefully done by the author so I'll roll with it & hopefully it softens a bit as the series progresses.

I didn't like this one as much as the others in the series. It felt like Emma hated, hated, hated Lachlain, then in the next breathe she couldn't get enough of him and loved him.
