Meh
it was an interesting plot but didn't really do much for me. I liked it to the extent that it was a decent read when I had extra time but it didnt have me not wanting to put it down or counting the seconds until I was free to pick it up. I liked the characters and everything it just wasnt my "oh my book I need this in my life" type of book. but but it was a nice book to have around when I'm bored.

So far this is my least favorite series from H.P. Mallory that I've read. Not completely sure if I will continue with it.

Fabulous Book! Very Original!

Lily Harper day isn’t starting out good and then she gets in a car accident and everything goes to hell in a basket.
The story is fast paced, humorous, and completely enthralling. The characters were colorful, believable, and quirky. They fit together well.

Lily is the really smart girl, who now finds herself with a hot body. I really enjoyed her courage and strength along with her naiveté. I loved the way she uses quotes and positive affirmations to re-enforce her courage.

The guardian angel Bill reminds me of an updated Danny DeVito character in Twins (yes that was a movie from the 1980s). Bill is repulsive, rude and obnoxious, but he is also loyal and protective. I think he is even sorry about the mistake he made before.

Tallis is mysterious, cunning, strong, dazzling and knowledgeable about so many things. Tallis saves the day, smiles a little and makes Lily think about things and feel things that she hasn’t felt before. He guides Lily on her mission, for a price of course.

The story was superb and I have already recommended it to my friends.

Bits & pieces of this book were enjoyable but overall I was fairly disappointed. I am a big fan of the Dulcie O'Neill series, but this just doesn't measure up to DON standards. The hero (chief source of UST) is hot & mysterious, but his accent was deeply irritating. I am everlastingly grateful not to have listened to this on audiobook. And frankly I could have done with some fleshing out of the UST as well. Sometimes less is not more. Especially when HP has already proved herself more than capable of writing a mean sex scene. The guardian angel, Bill, was often irritating as well, although he did grow on me as the book progressed. As for Lily, she was fine, but I frequently found myself half-doubting her as a realistic character. And yes, I am aware of how ridiculous that sentence is in this context. All in all, an ok read, but not HP Mallory's best work.

Unfortunately not for me. It's not the absurd, yet amusing premise that the Y2K bug glitched Afterlife Enterprises computer system such that souls aren't where they're supposed to be so they're "employing" Retrievers to set these souls to rights. It's the characters that just didn't mesh well with me at all.

Lily was incredibly entitled and silly that I can't imagine her being the head of the marketing department at 22. The only smart thing she did was to pick out a modelesque body with a gorgeous face.

Bill was even worse. I get he's supposed to be the comic relief (even Lily calls him that), but none of his jokes are funny (Lily laughs at them and I feel like this is the book version of a TV sitcom laugh track *shudders*) and his nicknames for her are just weirdly crude - sugar mounds, nips... Ugh.

The Bladesmith is obviously tsundere and I've given him a pass only because he seems to be the only one that's got a fully fleshed out back story and a personality that's not grating.

I usually am disappointed when books end before I expect them to, but never have I been so relieved when this book ended at the 85% mark and the rest was an excerpt for the next instalment.

The pacing great, the story wasn't terrible (though some words were overused, such as using "wherewithal" at least 3 times in the opening chapters), it was just the characters that I really didn't enjoy reading.

I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. I don't think I'll continue the series, the characters just didn't catch my eye compared to her other books.
