I still like the first entry in the Diary series the most. This one is another great sequel that the kids at my library have constantly been asking about. Greg hasn't learned a thing. Rowley is still a loveable doofus. Manny can't manage to grow up. The parents are still, well, parental. I have to say that the Shel Silverstein bit was absolutely perfect. I don't know how many times we at the library have commented on that terrifying picture of him. The way the book is set up, Kinney brings up Silverstein on a righthand page, leaving me to hope upon hope that on the next he has illustrated his own version of that scary author photo. Kinney did not disappoint, and the subsequent page-turning had me in hysteric giggles. If you liked the first two, you'll like this one as well.

Dad makes Greg play soccer so he cons his dad into letting him do boy scouts instead.. and not the crappy group that actually works but the fun group. He is still mean to Rowley.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw is another dose of Greg Heffley’s awkward, self-centered middle school life. This time, his dad is convinced Greg needs to “man up” and even threatens military school if Greg doesn’t start shaping up.

Greg is still focused on looking cool with minimal effort, which leads to a ton of funny and cringey situations. As always, he tries to dodge any real responsibility, and his over-the-top ideas usually backfire hilariously. This book keeps up the laughs with Greg’s nonstop schemes and his complete lack of self-awareness, making it another fun (if frustrating) read for fans who enjoy watching him get in his own way

Similar to Hard Luck, I revisited these books to try to experience what I missed out on when I was a kid and only read Percy Jackson. I did reasonably enjoy this instalment as well. I think the experiences were not as relatable to me but that’s fine that doesn’t bother me. I can see how these books can be entertaining for children as they are fairly easy to read and quick paced. I also enjoy the illustrations scattered throughout.

This one was a bit more all over the place. Not as good as the first.

Greg is as funny and absentminded as ever. I love the way he never feels as though he has done anything wrong. I love the lighthearted tone of this book. It really makes you laugh.
