Their art is raw and that’s exactly why I love it. “Guts”, “Fun Girl” and “A Story Like Mine” were my favorite poems. I felt like I was reading her personal diary, just like listening to their songs but with my own conscience declaiming her extraordinary verses.

Plastic plants get watered a lot in this.
Is it kinda like pop lyrics and slam poetry written by an angry teen? Yes.
SA is a predominant subject theme in this.
It was readable but not much wowed me.

H has always been a vulnerable artist. I knew this poetry book would cut me like a knife the day it released. I read fragmented pieces, but saved the whole thing, putting it off, knowing it was simply too raw and too personal for my life at the time of its release. Now, years later, I am older, my wounds from my late teens and early twenties have scarred over, and while some of the overarching themes in this poetry collection may hit close to home, they resonate in a more collected, matured way now. Less bloody, but still tender, still raw. Halsey - Ashley, is a visionary artist, who puts her insides on display for their fans. And it is a huge privilege. I cannot wait to see what we get lyrically on H5/A02, especially after reading IWLMIIC in full.

I know halsey is one of the most talented people, I listen to her music so much and her lyrics are beautiful. This wasn’t her best, I know she can write better stuff than this because it’s in her music.

Of all the wrongs you committed, the worst was keeping me from the beauty in anything that wasn't you.

I really like Halsey; her beautiful songs and sparkling, fighting personality made me a fan since long ago, so I was very excited to read this book and learn a little more about how her brain works and what pieces make her soul. These pieces are incredibly intimate confessions, and you can see glimpses of Halsey's mastery in songwriting in the gorgeous one-liners that sharply puncture your heart. Wistfully, these verses were maybe too personal for me to enjoy, like watching from the sidelines something I wanted to feel, and I'd hardly call them poetry. There were some beautiful lines, that's certain, but I mostly found random rhythmic words and statements that would have worked better in an essay. This is often my problem with modern poetry -so if you usually enjoy them you should enjoy Halsey's as well.

Overall, a disappointing but intimate lecture that, for me, doesn't hold a candle to Halsey's songs.
