The Heir was good, but it didn't really live up to the standard set by the selection series. I am looking forward to the next book. Cliff hanger at the end, prepare yourself.

The Heir, book number four in The Selection series. As the title suggests, it is about and written from the POV of the heir to the Illèa throne, Eadlyn Shreave, first born child of Maxon and America. When I started this book I wasn’t sure that I’d enjoy it as much being set roughly 19-20 years after The One finished and told from the POV of Princess Eadlyn. However, once I started reading I found myself fully immersed in the storyline.
With new rules in place and the caste system gone the country is still in unrest so, King Maxon decides that Eadlyn should hold her own selection to choose her future husband, hoping to help the people of Illèa be happier and give them something else to focus on.
Eadlyn’s character can be quite annoying; she comes across as bratty, spoilt, aloof and entitled, but given she’s grown up only knowing the life of a princess it’s understandable. It’s nice to see some previous characters return with new roles.
A couple curve balls at the end completely threw me!
Will Princess Eadlyn find love? I’m looking forward to hopefully finding out in book 5!

I enjoy that Edalyn is just as stubborn as her mother. Plus all the personalities of the boys are different enough that it’s not confusing which is so easy literary task.

Not as compelling as the first three, and honestly I was disappointed to not be following up on the story I was invested in, but once i gave it at chance it was entertaining in it's own right. Excited to read the final book!

I admit, there are plenty of things I dislike about this book. Eadlyn is spoiled and self-centered and egotistical.

She's a flawed character. And that makes her a terrible character, but a more believable person.

This had a lot of moments where I shook my head at her arrogance and self-conceit. Her conversation with Neena about her boyfriend. And her last words to Ahren. But there were a lot of wonderful moments too. The baseball scene and the first "date" with Kile, and pretty much every scene with Osten. And definitely the scene with her, Ahren, Kaden and Osten together. Those are incredibly real moments that I loved.

I don't hate this book, despite our MC's faults. I think she's seeing them now, and I'm expecting to see her grow in the final book. And I believe she has a valid point about the expected roles of women, and of how things can really take a toll on a person.

I have my guess for who she's going to end up with, but I'll keep mum about it for now.

I was honestly a little disappointed when I realized that this was told from the point of view of America Singers daughter with an approx 18 year jump into the future. I still couldn’t stop listening to this and I enjoyed it.

Didn’t care very much for Eadlyn, found her to be uppity, entitled, arrogant and spoiled. But I’m intrigued enough to read/listen to the next book and see how her selection will end.

I enjoyed it...it's exactly the same as the Selection but instead of a princess a princesses. I enjoyed the book and will read the next one to see who she chooses. However, I wish Kiera Cass would expand her horizons and write something different instead of extending a successful trilogy.

I didn't have any huge expectations for this book. Maybe it's better that way, then I won't end up disappointed. I just knew that the book won't be focused on America and it was kind of sad, because I liked her.

Instead of America, we got a her spoiler daughter. Although, there were some moments when she was quite reasonable, acted like an adult, there we're other moments when she cared only about herself. But I liked that she at least wanted to be independent and do her own thing.

I can see, why people complain about Eadlyn being annoying, selfish and spoiled. But, she has basically lived in a castle her whole life, she's the only daughter, she hasn't really seen the real world, well maybe read about it on the news or seen the news and she's still a teenager. And it seemed, she's the daddy's favourite child.
Maybe Maxon and America should've showed her the "real" world more, when she was younger. And maybe she wouldn't be so obnoxious and self-centered now.

But... maybe she was supposed to be a bitch. In the next book her character will make a huge development and become an adult that everybody loves. Well...I even kind of grew into liking Eadlyn (in the end) and some of the other new characters. Especially liked Kile and Erik. And of course I still loved Maxon and America and their friends.

Other than that, the story was what it was. It was a fast read, but mostly because I like the authors style. But for the story, it was like a straight line. Nothing really happened. The life went on and nothing shocking happened... but then the last two chapters.... boom, one thing. Boom, another. And boom, just to be sure, another. Were the last two chapters of shock just to get people to wait for the next book?

I don't know, but I sure am going to read the last book. I won't give up at four books when I have one more book to read in this series.
