I reread this book since I haven't since high school, just to see what it was like as an adult. Though I understand the premise of reading it in high school, looking deeply at human nature and the repercussions of it, I think there are probably better books out there to accomplish it.

The character development is slim, the plot is fairly stationary, and the prose is much more wordy than necessary. It actually takes you out of the story, in my opinion.

This was such a good book. I wish this was assigned to me for school instead of Macbeth.
LEAVE JACK ON THE ISLAND.  Rip Simon and Piggy 🥺

The books is so very descriptive that it feels like watching a movie. This gets often reccomended as a book to read in high school and I can see why. Its a pretty accurate depiction of what would happen if children, or even adults, trapped on an island would eventually become and eventually come to do.
The point of the book, is think, is to show the society that is created at the start, founded on the good sense and civilization reached with the time spent in Britain, that without a solid foundation eventually shatters and the kids become savages, led by their instincts, without good sense to do whats rational, that is symbolised by keeping the fire up.

This book’s a good read if you like books with flawed characters. There’s definitely parts of the book that you have to interpret for yourself, which I liked. It makes you think about morals.
