A decent thriller. It didn’t have as many plot twists the last book I read by this author but I still enjoyed it. It’s longer but moves fairly quickly. The side stories could have been left out for me but I suppose it was trying to play up the mothering side of the book. It may make you question if you really know the people in your life at all.

This was my first book by this author and I was impressed by the writing style. The premise of a woman now divorced and engaged to be married getting a late night visit from her ex-stepdaughter to be told her ex-husband was murdered was a good start. The story fell flat in places and ran a little slow. The fiance has a hard time with her desire to reconnect with her ex-husbands daughters, and she can't let go of the family she once knew. The ex-husbands need for money and prestige unveils all the secrets he used to get it.

LOVED this book! I knew I would because I’ve loved every book of hers that I have read. Her story lines are never slow and her character development immerses you into their lives. This was a great read and I highly recommend it.

Normally I love Lisa Scottoline books. This one is the 1st one that made me wish I hadn't spent time reading it. The characters seemed very whiny & clueless about what was going on in their lives. They also had some major personality changes during the course of the book which really annoyed me & took away from what plot was actually there. Everything seems forced & rushed except for the dramas between characters.
I enjoy reading Lisa Scottoline's books because she writes strong, independent woman characters. This book had no one like that.

I started the book as an audiobook but quickly changed to the print edition. The narrator made the characters even more whiny & pathetic. If you really want to read this book, borrow it because it's not worth buying at all. Then find one of the earlier books & really enjoy a good story with fantastic characters.

I really enjoyed this book. It was recommended to me by my chiropractor and I'm glad that I checked it out. The pace in this book keeps you glued to the pages and there is endless twists and turns. All fans of the mystery genre should definitely check Scottoline out. I know that I will definitely be reading other books by her!

I normally love Lisa Scottoline, but this was definitely not one of her best works. Hopefully the next one will be better!

This book was so fast-paced & I loved that about it! The twists & turns kept my attention & I held on to every word.
I did find both the beginning & the end a bit cheesy, & a few parts a bit more descriptive than I would have liked, hence my 4-star rating instead of 5.
For the most part, I really enjoyed reading this novel.

My first Lisa Scottoline books and it was OK. Not terrible, but not fantastic either. Each of the characters annoyed me in some way or other: Jill because she doesn't have boundaries, has some stalker tendencies, claims she never stopped loving her step-daughters and yet she didn't really make an attempt to explain her divorce from their father, oh and how many times can she announce to everyone that she is a DOCTOR? Sam, Jill's fiance, doesn't seem to know what he wants
Spoiler throughout the book he keeps saying that he wants nothing to do with Victoria or Abby, Jill's ex step-daughters, but of course, in the end, in order to present a nice ending, he is all on board with them and wants Jill to have a relationship with them
Abby and Victoria weren't all that great either. Victoria was just a bitch to everyone (and with some people she had no reasons whatsoever to be this bitchy)

The mystery itself was somewhat weak, but I did like that some portions of the book took place in my backyard (sort of). Hoboken is very familiar to me, as is a drive from Philadelphia to Northern Jersey. That was a nice surprise.
Spoiler Abby believes that her father and Jill's ex-husband, William, was murdered. Police believe that his death was because he mixed medications with alcohol. While trying to convince Abby that she is wrong, Jill is slowly investigating it. Turns out, William had a secret identity and a secret life in which he was selling insider information about drugs that are about to be recalled by the FDA. The pharmaceutical company where he was getting his information from was also doing some shitty things and not reporting all of the complaints from the patients to the FDA (in order to avoid or minimize recalls).
