I am lost in the Mitchellian universe. And I am perfectly satisfied by that.

I've read three of Mitchell's books now, and I do feel compelled to read more of them, knowing now that all are so interconnected. I loved (and still love) Cloud Atlas and enjoyed (but had issues with) Bone Clocks. I'd rate Slade House between them. There's a looping nature to the book that might not appeal to some, but I enjoyed the variations on the theme and thought he used it well by the end. There is an info-dump chapter very much like The Bone Clocks. I am perhaps more forgiving of such things in books than when I read The Bone Clocks though.

Slade House was surprisingly eerie and disturbing. I enjoyed it just fine, but I had higher hopes going into this book. I loved the darkness of this story and the connection between the stories within it. Though some stories were much less entertaining than others, I liked this novel most of the time. It was an interesting enough read for me to recommend it... To those of you who like scary books!

As with all of David Mitchell's books this works best when it's not explaining itself to you (barring the near perfect Cloud Atlas). Were it more content to keep its audience on tenterhooks, and not an endless series of parlor scenes culminating in same climax this may have been great. Instead, we're left with tedious set pieces saved by Mitchell's grasp of polyphony.

This book made my brain do kartwheels. It’s a spooky book, but in a skin-crawling kind of way. Would read again at halloween time <3
