Only Daughter follows the past and the present, delving into the perspective of Bec, who went missing in 2003; Her impostor, who takes her place after finding herself in legal trouble. The story shows Bec's days leading up to her disappearance, as well as her impostor in the present adjusting to play the role of the girl she's pretending to be. But will it be enough to outsmart the people in Bec's life?

I had high hopes going into this book, but it wasn't what I thought it would be. It was actually better, in some ways. I liked being able to see things from Bec's perspectives in flashbacks. The impostor isn't all that much of a likable character but she's not terrible. I read this in just a few days and even though the story is slow going, there is a lot in it that makes sense in the end. There are little things to pay attention to that come into play when all is revealed, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The author set up the book's mystery well enough to have everything make sense in the end. The twist was good, very shocking. I did not see it coming at all-- which was another thing I enjoyed about it. So when you're reading and you think you figured it all out, think again. I'd recommend!

I am an Indigo employee, and I received an advanced reading copy of this book from Indigo Books and Music, in exchange for my honest feedback.

This was one of those 'guilty pleasure thrillers' that you curl up with in front of the fireplace with a bottle of wine -- only there was nothing to feel guilty about. I found the plot interesting and fast-paced, and I was unable to put it down. I had no idea what to expect, and honestly, the conclusion was quite a surprise for me! It felt like plot twist after plot twist after plot twist. I really loved the concept - and how it was narrated by two different characters in two different time periods. There's something about the 'long missing person comes back' trope that I absolutely love, and this book did not disappoint.

Looooved this book. I didn't guess a single bit of what was going on, and that always puts it higher on my list. It really creeped me out, especially the last 15% or so.

This is one of those super fast, easy to read thrillers. I was gripped the whole time I was reading it but it's not one that will be super memorable for me. I probably wouldn't have read this if I knew it contained descriptions of animal abuse, and even skimming over it that did affect my enjoyment. I mostly had a good time with this though.
