Not that this books wasn't entertaining because it had its moments but I have some problems with it.
-Plot was thin. They were sent on this adventure and I never really understood why. What was the motivation behind it?
-We have a newly minted couple at the end of the last book and literally NONE of this book was from their perspective.
-I NEVER got the impression that Prim was attracted to Tash. I always felt like Tash was pushing herself on Prim. It made me uncomfortable.

There were some things I did like.
-I felt like the author made a real effort to explore varying expressions of sexuality which I appreciated. I can't speak to how valid they are as they're not my personal expression but I appreciate the effort nonetheless.
-It was fun to see scenes from other character's perspectives.

Overall, I got the impression our author was pushed to do this series rather than actually wanted to do this and it left something to be desired in her storytelling.
Here I go on to the last one because I've made it this far so why not...

Love!
Can't wait for the next (write faster Gail, I'll make you some tea and scones)
Read as audio book. I adore Moira. She does an amazing job every time.

Still more PNR then steampunk or anything else.
The one thing I liked is that focus shifted from Rue to Prim and Percy. I love the twins as characters. especially Percy. I hope he will be featured even more in the next book.

These books are so much fun! I began this as an audio and didn't care for the reader. The plan was to give her half of the book and then switch to the page. I ended up sticking it out and I'm very glad I did. She grew on me. I attended a panel with Gail Carriger at ComicCon one year and she talked about how new authors get no say in who will read their audiobooks. Her first audio was full of mispronunciations and she was sorely disappointed. As she became more successful she was able to choose the reader and I should have trusted her. She made a good choice, I just had to acclimate.

The Spotted Custard and it's accompaniment is on another adventure which is really just a ruse for a romance. Well, a few romances. Carriger grew up in San Francisco and never learned that any love was wrong. Love was love, in all it's forms and glory. Of course that's right, but not everyone knows. I think she uses her books to teach her readers that lesson. Not in a heavy handed, this is a morality story kind of way, but in a teaching by example way. I love it!

The end of the tale has Rue making a shocking announcement that I simply cannot wait to explore in the next installment.

These books are so fun. Frivolous and entertaining, yet pushing the boundaries about how the characters look at relationships and how they view themselves in the world. This time they're off to South America to save an endangered hive of unusual vampires. I enjoyed getting to know Primrose a lot better in this one.

If you want a new take on a supernatural, LGBTQ+ cross-cultural romantic adventure, here it is!!

The way each book takes on a new culture is super interesting. In this book, however, it started to feel like the author was trying to do too much. I was really really started to be invested in Rue and Quesbel....just in time for the focus to shift and then to be in the background. I was not expecting Miss Primrose to be front and center, so that threw me off a little bit and made me wish for more of Rue (my new fave). The relationship that developed in this book did not 'develop' so much as just happen. I love a good 'coming of she's moment, but sadly I think there is so much happening, it was hard to really see everything happening to Prim.

NOW please know that I did really like this story. I am always excited to spend more time in this fantastic universe where warecreatures and vampires and unlady like ladies trapezing around the globe take on fabulous adventures and upset high society as they know it.
