Intriguing story that pulls you in from the beginning. It is ultimately a love story between two neighbors (Peter and Kate). They come from different families but Peter's mom, Anne, has a mental disorder and shoots Kate's dad. She ends up in a psychiatric hospital for many years before being released. During this time Peter and Kate end up going through life together, marrying at a young age, and having 2 children. Peter decides to become a cop just like his dad but ends up being forced to retire as he develops a drinking problem and fires his gun accidentally on the job. He then becomes a school teacher.

I think I may be the only person who didn't love this book...

I really wanted to love it, the first half of this book really grabbed my attention but as the story went on I couldn't help but to lose interest.

I didn't stop reading but I kept hoping for something big and pivotal to happen, but it never did. I guess I was hoping for more drama from this family drama.

This book kept me reading, interesting from beginning to end.
The story starts off with two cops Brian and Francis new to the force and planning to get married, and then eventually becoming neighbors. They and their wives never got along with each other and “things” happened that caused a falling apart.
Brian’s son Peter and Francis’s daughter Kate were best friends but one huge event threw everyone in different directions.
Peter and Kate both grow up but their past never stops haunting them.
It’s a great story what I couldn’t put down, throughly enjoyed it.
Loved the ending as well, felt like it was exactly what the book needed!

um bom drama familiar em que as personagens surpreendem. acredito muito que é mais fácil fugir do que ficar e nem sempre se retrata isso na ficção, e este livro mostra e luta com essa dualidade de uma forma bonita.

This book was a little heavy for me. It had moments of being heartwarming and sweet and other moments where the whole book just seemed over all depressing.
