"That's the trouble with making a decision. You never know if it's right until after you've done it. But it is what adults are supposed to do. Make decisions. And then live with them."

Thick: "So this was our adventure. And the prince and the princess get married and live happily ever after, with many children to warm them in their old age."
Fitz: "Perhaps. Perhaps."
Thick: "What happens to the rest of us?"

Fool: "Do you ever get over it? Did you ever get past it?"
Fitz: "No. You don't. I didn't. You won't. But you do go on. It becomes a part of you, like any scar. You will go on."

"He says that when you let go and follow your fate instead of trying to twist your life around and master it, a man finds that happiness follows him."

A spectacular conclusion to an amazing trilogy. I'm so sad that it's over. I'll miss Fitz as a 30-something-year-old like me. Now I guess it's time to wait for me to turn 50 so that I can read the final trilogy (lol jk). My heart shattered to a million pieces during the course of reading this and was put back together again with permanent scars marring it. I will never forget how amazing this trilogy was!

I do wish that
the Fitz and Molly renewed love story could have gone on longer, perhaps even given it a novella or something.
But in either case, it was a lovely ending that Fitz so definitely deserved!

Oh wow! Such an amazing ending to this trilogy. I was so sad and so happy at times and how many story threads came together. I am in awe of Hobb‘s ability to write characters and their relationships with so many nuances.

"I'd rather be forgotten for the things people think I've done. And I'd give it all if I could forget the things I failed to do."

On one hand, I want to rate this 5 stars simply because of how many emotions this book put me through. It was a full spectrum of sensations and internal reactions. Had me sitting in silence for minutes on end, huge pits in my stomach, watering eyes, all of it. Truly so so so emotional, which is immense praise for Hobb's writing and her characters. But I can't quite overlook my grievances with the ending and part of the climax, which I have often felt are Hobb's most evident weaknesses as a writer. The climax occuring in the middle of the book with its resolution felt a little rushed and disorganized to me. And I'm very conflicted about where Fitz ends up, in addition to the whole ending (last 50 pgs probably) feeling very rushed as well and almost completely glossed over near the very end. However, it may have taken another 100 pages or so of just dialogue and interactions for me to feel differently.

"Home is people. Not a place. If you go back there after the people are gone, then all you can see is what is not there any more.”

All in all, my complaints do not heavily diminish this reading experience or the trilogy as a whole. Fool's Fate is still a great final book to a spectacular trilogy. And in the meantime, I think I'm bumping The Golden Fool to 5 stars because at least one of these books deserve that, and I believe I ultimately enjoyed that one the most.

"In that last dance of chances
I shall partner you no more.
I shall watch another turn you
As you move across the floor.

In that last dance of chances
When I bid your life goodbye
I will hope she treats you kindly.
I will hope you learn to fly.

In that last dance of chances
When I know you'll not be mine
I will let you go with longing
And the hope that you'll be fine.

In that last dance of chances
We shall know each other's minds.
We shall part with our regrets
When the tie no longer binds.”

Whilst my favourite farseer book is still Fool's Errand, this book probably has my favourite ending (and by ending I mean the last 5th of it). I adored the Fool's story in this Trilogy and I will miss it.

I adored this book. It was a brilliant epic fantasy and the most heartbreaking, gorgeous love story that I have ever read. I was enraptured the entire time. The plot, the characters, everything was absolutely captivating. There was so much going on that when I was partially through, I couldn’t believe that this book would be able to tie up everything in a satisfying way, but it DID. 100000/10. (It’s taking all my strength not to skip to the next trilogy to keep up with these characters, but I learned my lesson from skipping Liveship Traders! I will not be skipping another chunk of the series.)

Gorgeous end to this trilogy. Robin Hobb is a master of the realistic ending - sometimes your love is lost, your friends and family have passed, and that is the way it needs to be. The political intrigue kept me engaged and the action was paced well. Delighted to find out there is another trilogy that I have not read yet!
