Alice tragically lost her husband and fell apart, with a child and a successful business to run. She found solace in her new husband Nathan and her new friend Beth. Alice was happy and life was hectic, but good. That all changed when lies began coming out, and she began to question everything including who she could trust.

This book was definitely not what I expected in that it had way more twists and turns. It was a fun wild ride to read and until the end, it could have gone any way. I think Sandie Jones did a fantastic job developing the story line and I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Thank you to Minotaur Books for the ARC of this book.

What did I just read? Just like The Other Woman, this book starts out super slow and I almost quit reading and then it fast tracked off the rails. It was so ridiculous. If the beginning wasn’t so horrendously boring with the over done drunk depressed woman I would have rate this 4 stars because the end rose was pretty crazy fun

I received an ARC of #TheFirstMistake from #MinotaurBooks in exchange for an honest review. What can I say about this book-it left me in anticipation until literally the last page of the book. I thought I knew what was happening and then things took a turn all throughout the book. So good-each of the characters, even the minor ones, were so well crafted and fit so intricately in their places in this novel. Loved everything-the plot, characters, twists and turns! Well done #SandieJones with #TheFirstMistake. Cannot wait to read more books by you!!

I finally was able to pick up this book, and I'm sorry I didn't sooner. If you are looking for a twisty mystery that keeps you guessing until near the end, this is for you. I flew through this book in just a few days, as it was easy to pick up and get back into the story. This is written well enough that you are rooting for the main character, while all the while wondering who is good, who is bad, is all this in her head? The author does a satisfying job of keeping you guessing (I only guessed a few things) and then wrapping it all up with answers. Trigger warnings for emotional abuse, divorce, and npd.

Ok, hear me out. This was like a 3.5 that I rounded up to 4 Stars. I got total Lifetime movie vibes from it and I really couldn’t put it down. A whole lot of “coincidences” and ridiculousness like the Lifetime movies we all hate to love but do. I would’ve rated it higher…but the end, blegh.

Alice’s husband unexpectedly passes away and she is left to pick up the pieces. Luckily, she has her business that her husband helped her start. She then meets Nathan who becomes her second husband. Alice feels like she’s finally found happiness because she has a successful business, two children, and a beautiful house. She also has her best friend Beth, who she trusts wholeheartedly. However, she begins to wonder if her trust has been misplaced. ⁣

Overall, The First Mistake was an enjoyable read. I found some of it predictable, but then it also threw me for a loop. The epilogue felt a bit rushed, but it answered the question that the ending left me with, so I appreciate the story being tied up neatly. ⁣
If you enjoy domestic thrillers, I definitely recommend this book. ⁣

This book intrigued me more than I thought. At the end I kept saying things like “I should’ve saw that coming” or “oh hell no.” Surprisingly good for a random find.
