WOW, unexpected greatness.  I read this to fill a challenge prompt of 'fan fiction'.  I struggled to find a book that sounded vaguely worth reading and eventually settled on Point Pleasant.

This book is one of those unputdownable rare books that have you reading into the small hours.

Although I am new to the horror genre, there was absolutely nothing that could make me put down this book. I read it from start to finish in a couple of days and only stopped to rant to my sister about how impressive and creepy it was.

Ben and Nicolas' story pulled me right in from the start. They are a companionship that grows and shifts around the many things they have to face during the course of the story. Not only will the mysterious Mothman have them wrapped up in a race to understand what is happening to the town they grew up in, it will also force them to face what they're hiding from each other.

What I love most about this story is the balance of it all. I find myself disappointed when a story focuses too much on what goes bump in the night over the characters facing the adversity themselves. This book, however, expertly manages to keep you at the edge of your seat while also delivering a heartwarming and at times heartbreaking testament to the human condition.

This book has my highest recommendation for those wishing to lose themselves in a chilling and electric tale of love, loss, and terror.

I discovered this book when looking for one to fulfill a reading prompt for fan fiction. I loved that it was Supernatural inspired, but finding out that it was centered around the Mothman legend made me really excited.

Being from West Virginia, I was brought up around the legend of the Mothman and the history of the deadly Silver Bridge collapse. I thought the author did a really great job of taking this legend and making it her own with an original storyline.

On top of being a paranormal thriller, there was also a romance element with a
male/male relationship with a freinds-to-enemies-to-lovers vibe.

Overall I enjoyed the story and it was a great choice for heading into spooky season.

arrrgh...the first 50% of this book was freaking fantastic.

I loved the set up, Ben's return to his home town where spooky things start happening almost immediately. This was Stephen King-esque horror in the best way with similarities to part II of IT.
I loved the pacing of the romance, there was some great communication between these two and a really hot, long steamy scene.
Yes, the dialogue was a little clunky - no one says someone's name that much when they are talking. And the metaphors were way too plentiful. But it was all setting up so nicely, I was all in.

And then it just fell apart. The twist of what was happening in the woods was a weird choice, but fine I can live with it. Suddenly Ben seemed like a different person, Nic became a complete asshole - dare I say abusive in the way he got aggressive when Ben didn't do what he told him to do (there were hints these personality changes were due to supernatural reasons but then nothing became of that). The relationship dynamics went from really mature and sweet to a total hot mess and it didn't seem consistent with the characters.

The overall plot got a bit drawn out but it was, in general, a decent concept and an exciting climax. But then we were left with over 100 pages of just day to day fluff and tying to wrap up plot threads. I was skimming because the pacing got way out of whack, and by then I just didn't care because the mending of the relationship was not satisfactory at all after all that angsty drama. There was so much hot and cold between these two I couldn't keep up.

Basically, this really needed an editor. I was riding such a high because I thought I had finally found another good old fashion horror romance but it turned out to be just meh and now I am sad.

This would have been 2 stars without the strong start :(

This just wasn’t for me. I picked it up to fulfill a Fanfiction prompt in a reading challenge because I enjoy Supernatural but this was a little too much for me.
