just a really fun and easy read - a bit ridiculous at times but you can really tell the author loves the brontë sisters and knows their story. was a little dark but also quite enjoyable

I LOVE it! Reminds me what I love about reading, captures the Brontës brilliantly, and I appreciate spotting the ways their works have inspired the writing - not just the story overall but also the (I suppose you could say) Easter eggs.

Another amazing read in the Bronte sisters mysteries. The author not only writes a great mystery with lovable characters, she also includes elements that influence the sisters and will become pieces of their published works. The character named Grace Poole in this story is a great example.
As cheesy as it sounds, I have grown to love the Bronte sisters and their brother Branwell through these two novels. It's easy to forget that they lived lives just as nuanced as anyone else's. This series has become a favorite.

This book was so enjoyable. The mixture of the Brontë sisters and the goth and macabre worked perfectly for me. I was sucked into this story, and I loved the complete ride.

It starts out very slowly, with too much extraneous information. It does build up the mystery in the second half, which becomes faster paced to the conclusion. Still, it wasn’t hard to guess who the psychopath was.

I'm really enjoying this series. It's obvious that Ms. Ellis has done deep research into the lives of the Brontës, and her portrayal of their relationship and personalities rings true for me. While the mystery and the characters involved are fictional (although the Haworth Earnshaws and others such as the Heaton family were real people) this one also has elements strewn through it that can be seen as inspiration for the Brontë novels, particularly Wuthering Heights. She doesn't slavishly follow that plot of that book, however, but combines those elements in a completely original and compelling narrative.

Unfortunately the "fun" nods to the Bronte sisters' novels get even more heavy handed in the second book in this series. So much so that they ruin the mystery (not that it's hidden that much).

Although there were parts I enjoyed, I just can't keep on with a mystery series when the mysteries are so obviously pointed out to the reader repeatedly.
