An intertwined story of three women, three time periods, written by three authors (all of whom I adore), this was a convoluted but beautiful story of life during war and the sacrifices made by ordinary people, who then become extraordinary in light of the horrors surrounding them.

Love.

Also, the ending was very satisfying, a combination of sad yet sweet and most definitely hopeful.

In this historical fiction novel co-written by three different authors, three different women in three different timelines are connected by war and an amulet in France. In 1914, Aurelie is trapped on her family estate when the Germans claim it as their headquarters. They are searching for a valuable heirloom that plays a part in all three timelines. In 1942, Daisy works as a Resistance courier. And in 1962, Barbara searches for answers for what her husband really did during the war and what his relationship was with “La Fleur” the famed French resistance heroine who sent him letters after the war that Barbara secretly hid out of jealousy. I enjoyed the storytelling style and enjoyed each story separately. I kind of wished that the stories had felt more connected. They did connect at the very end. This is probably just sort of expected when written by three different people. Still, they were very enjoyable on their own.

This was a lovely story that I enjoyed reading. Although predictable at times, it had plenty of surprises that kept me guessing. It had a consistent voice and tone, so it's hard to believe it was written by three authors.

Good story with several twists. Enjoyable but not thoroughly believable. I feel like I wasn't as invested in the characters as I could have been. Overall it was interesting and fun though.

The book offered me a one-of-a-kind journey for two-thirds of the road, but then it left me hanging in the last few chapters. At first, I was skeptical because a book with 3 writers would definitely have mistakes in regard to keeping a consistent writing style. Despite that, when I first opened the first few pages, I realized that I had got it all wrong, but what bothers me is the plot. Personally, I would never be able to forgive knowing my husband only think of me as a replacement, and then even when he is on his deathbed, he moans another woman's name. That is just absolutely unacceptable, therefore, I could not relate at all.

Moreover, what happened with the ending? Why was it so abrupt? In addition to the fact that the ending of the book was so rushed, the secret revelation and plot twist was not really a "twist" because I have anticipated that Max is related to Daisy since their first encounter. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book enough to say that there were bumps on our journey, but we altogether made it to the end.

Wowowowowow! This was such a great romantic historical fiction. I’m not usually a historical fiction fan, but this one captured my heart. 3 stories, 3 times, 1 place they have in common, The Ritz. Romance, strife, everything you could ask for.
