There is no way this wasn’t written by a high school student who later edited it in their mid twenties. This should have stayed on the ol’ hard drive. What a mess. Problems I have with this include “oh em gee” being included multiple times, catty conversations no self respecting person over 16 would admit to and whiplash behaviour between the main characters. The main characters childhood friend re-enters her life and within a month main characters post uni best friends are included in a trip planned by childhood friend. Huh? Do people invite strangers to a vacation home? So much red pen was needed on this draft.
The villains were so one dimensional and so cheesy.
I wanted to ditch this about 109 times but persevered to finish only for it to end on a cliffhanger? YIKES. I wish I could get back the time I spent reading this mess.
Lessons learned - if you aren’t into it, do not finish it.

If I could give this book zero stars…I would.
The rollercoaster ride that was this book y’all. The actions of the main characters made ZERO sense. The woman in this book is soooo boring and she does the most cringy things. Not to mention she’s all, “I want Julien! He won’t hurt me like you did” and then corners the main male character and says, “what’s your problem?” like she has no idea why he’s being broody and annoyed with her—-ummm maybe because he loved you and tells you and you said to him that you are still going to marry Julien??

Also, the main guy calls a PI to basically Google her and tell him about her life but he couldn’t have called this PI to actually do his fucking job and find her for 9 years?? Unbelievable for a guy who says he looked everywhere for her and has a shit ton of money.

Generally this book was painful to read. The writing is so bad. I started highlighting actual passages from this book that were terribly written to share in my review and I lost count of how many I had and I had difficult time picking just one—so just take my word for it that the writing is awful.

It felt completely unedited, flippy floppy, and made no sense y’all. Tropes we’re just thrown in there without any forethought, and not executed well. The main guy is all, “I told you, I don’t share. You’re MINE” all growly like and that felt so random. Of course he shares. He didn’t even look for her for 9 years and then used the excuse of “I thought you were better off without me” and “ I couldn’t find you”—huh??

Oh and this book has some blatant racism so that was awful to read too and also completely unnecessary to the plot. This book could have been 300 pages less and maybe slightly better but still terrible.

I only finished this book so I could adequately and fairly give it 1 star (but less imo if I could) and write a fair review of how terrible it is. Thank god I didn’t spend money on it

I really enjoyed meeting Charlie, Alex (Lex) and Julian. I like the way that the author goes from one chapter coming from Charlie’s perspective and then the next is from Alex’s perspective. You get a feel for how they are thinking and it gives you a better understanding of who they are.

Charlie and Alex met years ago when Charlie was in high school, Charlie’s best friend at the time called Adriana had a brother called Alex. Charlie and Alex bumped into each other one night when Charlie was having a sleepover at Adrianna’s house. The electricity between them was undeniable, but Alex is married, they can’t go any further than friends or can they?

The chapters go between the present and the past so that you get an understanding of their stories and where they have come from. In the present Charlie is a lawyer with her own law firm with her best friend. She is starting to turn into a cat lady until she meets Julian, he is a dream come true for Charlie, but when Julian is having dinner with Charlie who is at the restaurant? None other than Alex. Alex and Charlie’s electricity has not disappeared over the years that they have been apart. Will Charlie see what happens with Julian? Or is there more to Charlie and Alex’s?

Alex is a controlling, possessive man who won’t stop until he makes Charlie HIS. Alex who now goes by Lex has had a string of women in his life since Alex and Charlie knew each other all those years ago. He resides in London but has come to New York to open up a new office, is this fate or just his past coming to haunt him?

Does he just want what he can’t have?

and just like that august slipped away like a moment in time,

Still slowly introducing myself to dark romance and was recommended this by a friend,

“𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓇𝓁𝑜𝓉𝓉𝑒, 𝐼 𝒸𝒶𝓃’𝓉 𝓉𝒶𝓀𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝒶𝓃𝓎𝓂𝑜𝓇𝑒. 𝒴𝑜𝓊’𝓇𝑒 𝓂𝒾𝓃𝑒, 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓊𝓃𝒹𝑒𝓇𝓈𝓉𝒶𝓃𝒹? 𝐼𝓉’𝓈 𝒶𝓁𝓌𝒶𝓎𝓈 𝒷𝑒𝑒𝓃 𝓊𝓈.”

We love ourselves a morally grey character and Charlotte is no different. although she does call her situation a love triangle it is not, because Julian does not know that she is cheating on him

This book really tested me lmao
DNF-ed at 35% I couldn't take it anymore.
So disappointed with myself the way I jumped headfirst into this with my 'sucker for second chances angst' ass.
