Pretty good! It was kind of all over the place with lots of intense/traumatic events happening to the same character/family, which makes it less believable at times.
Definitely some diet culture type comments/jokes that I didn’t appreciate, but overall I liked the main character and her personality.
I also think there should be an SA trigger warning.

This book had almost everything I don’t like in a single book: terrible narrator, explicit rape scene and an unnecessary death of a pet that was made to be funny. This book was awful- read something else.

I absolutely love Audible Plus because it gives me access to thousands of audiobooks for free with membership. I was browsing the catalog when I came upon some Kristin Higgins books and decided to give Now That You Mention It a try.

I really admire how the author portrayed Nora, who has been through so much but has persevered. She tough, tender, kick-ass, and full of love for those in her orbit. She’s definitely the type of strong female character I like to read or listen to.

One of the strengths of this book was that the romance was a minor element and not the focus of the story. And I liked the fact that some more serious issues were dealt with in a lighter manner. After reading or listening to a lot of darker books, it was a nice break to all the heaviness one can get with big subjects. That’s not to diminish them, that’s just to say there’s more than one way a storyteller can talk about serious subjects.

Overall, I liked the book. The overall message seemed to be about love. I will definitely be checking out the other Kristin Higgins titles available on the Audible Plus catalog.

I read it in two days... nothing pulls me in like a Kristan Higgins novel. The voices and the characters are genuine and down-to-earth. I am starting to notice what I might consider an unfortunate trope in her books, which is Young Woman Doesn't Find Happiness in the Big City So She Leaves for Small Town America and Finds Happiness There. I guess that's what a lot of people do; live in the city when they're young and cool and head out to suburbia later on, but it's getting to be a little bit of a disappointment for me to keep seeing it. I enjoyed this very much in spite of that. I liked Nora Stuart's voice as a narrator, as the novel is written in first-person, and I especially enjoyed watching her change over the years and grow into herself. This takes place a little bit in Boston and mostly in an island community off the coast of Maine. I don't love small-town stories but I did enjoy this. It's about romance and friendship and self-acceptance. Such a nice, nice read.

Now That You Mention It by Kristan Higgins is about a woman starting over. After being hit by a vehicle, Dr. Nora Stuart is in a hospital bed recovering. While her boyfriend thinks she's in a coma, she's actually awake and discovers he's flirting with another staff member at the hospital over her body! Appalled and needing a fresh start, Nora decides to return home. It's somewhere she has not returned to since leaving (and the reasons why are shared along the way), but she feels like it's where she needs to go. So, she heads back to her mother and her niece who is staying there because Nora's sister is incarcerated. Returning home, Nora seeks to (re)build relationships, and she also comes head on to many aspects of her past - Y'all, some of these are really emotional and painful. This was a story that definitely is about some tough stuff, and there is also hope and love and new beginnings sprinkled throughout. Sometimes you just need a reliable novel with solid characters and a wonderful story, and this was exactly what this was!
