An interesting take in the fantasy sense and the animal bonding sense. Very good in parts, but can drag at some points.

I would just like to reiterate what a few others said. The book was definitely an enjoyable read, with an imaginative world. However, the overuse of commas (bordering on grammatical errors) made reading a bit of a chore at times. And while the plot was indeed predictable, it was the characters that made the story enjoyable. While the characters had depth, I felt they lacked development throughout the book, which was dissapointing for me. Also, the end left me with less closure than I feel is appropriate in the first book of a series.

Overall a good, solid read, but it failed to compell me to read the rest of the series.

I will admit this book took me sometime to get into, but once I was hooked in the story passed by swiftly. The descriptions, at times, could be too flowery and sometimes detract from the story. I love the whole premise and sorely wish I could communicate with my cat the way Doyce does with her ghatta, Khar. A lengthy read, but worth every page. I am looking forward to picking up the next book and starting in on another adventure with Doyce and Khar!

This novel was pretty good for a debut. It could have used some stronger editing, as it was slow to get started and the plot took quite a while to build. I saw the ending coming from very early on, but I enjoyed the world and most of the characters, particularly the felines. I hope the next in the series is an improvement.

I remember reading the first of these books when Em in I were in Los Angeles. I recall enjoying the crafting of the world and how well it fit with some of my prejudices about cats and the people who love them. This was before Em would go on to veterinary school and we would go on to care for many wonderful cats, but we did have some cats at the time who were magical and wonderful like the Ghatti.

I'm not sure I love this book as much now as I did then as I have read quite a bit and perhaps some of the amazing concepts have become trope, read again I shower...when I get a little deeper into my TBR pile.

Read these books if you like mind reading cats, interesting biological science fiction, and stories that involve sacrifice, hard sacrifice, for the greater good. If that's your type a story, read this book now.

I was wondrously surprised that I was fated to finish this book, much less enjoy it and give it a a three star rating! I picked up this book on a whim while waiting at the library, but it was more of a joke with myself at the time- a book about human/cat telepathic bonds? Of course I had to pick it up! Did I expect it to be any good? Not really, especially considering I'd never heard of it. But good it was.

Greeno's prose was a little too descriptive and flowery as other reviews have mentioned, but it didn't start to bother me until the end. As a cat lover, I absolutely adored the entire relationship between the human and ghatts (cats), especially how accurately Greeno painted the nuances of cat behavior. The story itself was alright, but the characters ended up making up for it. I think I'll actually be picking the next book up at some point down the road!
