I find Magary overly snarky as a sportswriter, but this memoir is all heart.

I read this over only a couple of sittings. I felt myself getting emotional along with his family and friends. Some reviewers disliked the parts written by others but I thought they really gave the story some dimension. As always, I enjoyed Drew's acerbic wit, but in this I also enjoyed his honesty. I think a couple parts dragged when he waxed philosophical about his perspective on life, but for a large majority of the book I was engrossed!

There’s a passage in this book that brought me to tears — in a good way. I’m not going to share it but I do recommend this book to anyone and I hope you get they same out of it.

I couldn't put this down. I loved the combination of his voice and the anecdotes from his friends/family. The blend of the awful reality he faced and the humor with which he faced it worked perfectly.

Drew Magary is one of my favorite internet writers. I remember being mystified when there was no Jambaroo, sad when an editor posted that he had been injured, and overjoyed when he first came out of his coma. This account of his experience was incredible. I learned a lot, laughed in unexpected places, and feel like I understand him better.

And I'm not just talking about how great I think the book is because I want him to use my submission for WYTS.

This book was quite interesting. Sometimes I prefer to not rate memoirs and I’m going to take that route here. I will say some thoughts on the book though. Drew’s experiences were fascinating and difficult. There were a few things I really didn’t agree with in this story but overall I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I would have given this book a 4 or 5 stars even, if it wasn't for all the chapters that were wasted in telling the story of his injury and his initial days in the hospital while unconscious from the perspective of EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN HIS LIFE, ALL OF THEM, even if they were saying the same thing. This format was weird, repetitive, and unnecessary. I would have given up reading there, if I wasn't a person who doesn't like leaving a book unfinished. Part 2 and 3 of the book were excellent. They were interesting, informative, and inspiring. The author was very honest and raw about everything that happened to him, physically, emotionally and mentally.
