Wow this book pulls you in right away. First off I love love love Alosa she is amazing!!! She's strong and capable and unapologetic. Her spirit matches her siren mother and fathers pirate spirit. She reminds me of Elizabeth Swan somewhat. The romance is a bit steamy for a 13+ rating but the story is about pirates so the language and content is bound to be a bit more course. There are several mention of men visiting brothels and sleeping with sirens but again with a pirate story it wasn't a surprise. I felt the author was going for a plot twist with Alosa being part siren but it wasn’t a huge surprise to me but rather a welcome addition. I liked Riden as a male character. He was slightly conflicted but not enough that it was annoying. He was sweet at times but didn't hesitate to use Alosa for his own ends. Alosa was unapologetic, using her body for what she needed and I appreciated that the author didn't write her as a blushing maiden. After all she's been through a lot and she's grown up around pirates her entire life. Her female crew reminded me of the Seafire books. The language isn't too bad for a pirate story (Bastard, Arse, Damned). Overall a good swashbuckling pirate romance with a strong female character. Reviewers have compared Alosa to Jack Sparrow and I heartily agree.

I very much enjoyed reading this book, however I did have some problems with it. The first being the murder, yes I know murder is a major part of being a pirate, but what I didn't like about it was how flippant it was dealt with. I would much have prefered this book be made for an adult audience and actually be fully dealt with. On the flipside the spice was just too much for me, for a YA book. Again, I would much rather have had this book be an adult book and go full out in all aspects.

I'm not the biggest fan of first person and at first I didn't mind it. But by 50 pages in I got the inkling that this book would do a lot more telling instead of showing.

Lastly, the last 70ish pages . . . I couldn't wait for it to be over.

This book had me giggling and kicking my feet. There are some awful characters (they're pirates so some of them are shit heads) but I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the story! I had a great time with every page!
