I have so many mixed emotions that I'm not quite sure where to begin. I suppose I'll begin by saying that I absolutely adored this series, and I think it's partially due to the fact I have nothing to compare it to. There is not a single series I've read that even comes close to being on the same page as this one. The first comparison my mind tried to make was Harry Potter, for the simple fact they both center around witches and wizards and a magical world that exists inside of ours but goes unseen by most of those who don't have magic of their own; but in reality the two are completely separate works, incomparable to each other (but both amazing in their own right).

I have a little Mercy Taylor in me and can't give this a 5/5 because I'm being stubborn and I feel a little bit cheated. I totally understand that everyone has their limits and gets tired of the same characters they spend years with but I feel like there is so much more story left to be told! That being said I do feel somewhat comforted by the fact that Horn's website mentioned a Jilo prequel story but I very much hope he one day decides to continue Mercy's story.
Things I didn't like:
One of the few things I can remember only because I just finished the book is the almost impossible to understand explanation of the line and its creation and the mechanisms of it all. I'm sure to J.D. Horn it makes complete sense, seeing as he dreamed it up in the first place, but I found myself getting a little lost in the words during the conversation 'the Swede' was having with Mercy. I'll have to go back and read it all again to see if I can make more sense of it. It didn't, however, take away from the overall story. It just slowed it down a bit for a few minutes.
There were plenty of things I didn't like as I was reading but most of them got resolved by the time it ended. Once I was finished reading the only thing I could pinpoint was the ending. I don't want this statement to get twisted into something it isn't, so let me clarify: I was okay with the story's ending, I just hate that it's the trilogy's end.

Originally I was going to wait a few days to review this because of how conflicted I felt when I finished, but I started typing and couldn't make myself stop. I genuinely enjoyed this book even throughout all of its twists and turns, especially the heartbreaking twists it begins to take about halfway through. I began to get extremely worried that it wasn't going to end well, and while I'm still not satisfied with the ending as a series, the book itself did end in a good place. If you have a thing for witches, the south, or just magic in general then I highly recommend this trilogy. It takes witches and does its own thing with it and, in my opinion, is extremely successful with what it does. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Frigging book! It's so hard to rate this one. I kept thinking I'm giving it a one star...no I'm giving it a five star. I am going with a 3.5 star rounded up.
The book picks up where the last one left off. You do need to read the first two books in this series to totally enjoy this one. The author touches base on things that happened previously but my opinion goes toward reading the others. Mercy is still pregnant and now there is someone spreading body parts all over Savannah.
Mercy really still hasn't had a chance to see her powers come to full power yet. The anchors of the line still want her either gone or completely in the dark. Maisy is back but at first is still in la-la land. Once Maisy does start coming back to herself though she is a major kick-ass witch.
At around 50% into the book the book takes a completely different turn. At first I was ok..we can do a little adventurous. I like adventure.
Then at around 80%. RAGE and ugly crying.
AND THAT FUCKING ENDING. I hated it. Completely and totally hated it.
Thus my dilemma with the star rating.
The entire series is a fun read. No, it's not great literature, but sometimes you just want entertained. These books do that. They involve some of my favorite storylines. Savannah GA, shown to it's spooky brilliance, witches, witches and more witches, with some other creatures thrown in for good measure.

Been trying to figure out how to rate this book since I finished it 12 hours ago...still have no idea. Weakest book in trilogy with significant problems, but you need to read it.
First 70% of book has no plot or story progression. Just a bunch of random attact scenes that in hindsight symbolizes loss. Then climax jumps in out of freaking nowhere. This section is all telling (explaining) with no showing. Spoiler alert: long dead characters re appear to tell you in dialog what is happening. Then the long conclusion / epilogue goes on and on turning your stomach at every reveal with a last bit of pointless hope at the end.
I didn't care for this book.

The plot "twists" were very strange and hard to follow. It concluded the series, but did it in a very strange fashion.

Let me start by saying, I enjoyed this series. It’s a great series to pick up when you’re need a little bit lighter reading.
This third book though? Super frustrating. So much of it was frustrating. If you are like me and don’t like leaving series unfinished, go ahead and read it.
But if you like The Source better than The Line, you will probably not be the biggest fan of this book either.

Maisie returns, and she’s almost broken emotionally at this point.
Then weird things are happening with the magic in Savannah, including a devastating murder. Peter losses his mind, and that storyline arc is a completely different heartbreak.
Then this super weird thing happens with Mercy being only the line, and she rewrites some of the history of her family. Then she comes back. I just feel like the epilogue leaves more questions. I liked this series but the ending was completely strange and felt rushed.

I don't even know where to start with this review. I have a love/hate relationship with J.D. Horn right now. I have loved this entire series and have grown so attached to the characters. I love the world of magic that he created. (With so much magic swirling around YA right now it is always refreshing to read something with a different take.) I seriously loved the first two books in the series.
What I did not love, was this book. The first half or so was right on par with the first two books in the series and then I don't even know what happened. It was as if Horn decided to shove every idea he had about the mythology surrounding the line, possible plot lines, and every single possible death he could think of into the last half of this book. It ended up being a jumbled, confusing mess and I am so disappointed!
I am giving this three stars because of how much I loved the series and the first half of this book but if this was a stand alone novel I would most likely have given it one star. I hated the ending. I hated it so much. I honestly wish I would have just stopped after the first two books. They were on such a different level than this one was. So much disappointment.
