I went into this book hoping it would remind me of that one Magnus Archives episode (iykyk) and it did in some ways, but it definitely wasn't as spooky as I had thought. I enjoyed it overall; it's been a while since I've read something with only a couple of character narratives. I did get confused on the setting quite a lot and would try to reference the maps but that wasn't much help either. I'm sure that can add to the lost underground vibe but it really took me out of the story sometimes. I do wish the
SpoilerTunneler reveal
was more shocking, but maybe that's the point haha. Anyway I don't regret reading this, it was a nice dip into the spooky books for the fall season!

The book was good, building tension very well through the first 75%. It had me almost jumping at coworkers walking around corners in broad daylight. Towards the end though, it seemed like we were retrodding the same ground over and over with slightly more intense language. Also,
the codependent relationship between Em and Gyre
felt overplayed to me. Overall a fantastic build-up that led to an unsatisfying and drawn out ending.

Gosh I hate morally grey love interests when they’re men but give me a gay girly relationship with one of them being literally evil and I’m in.

Plus in this book the only characters who even have dialogue or are physically in any scene in any way are women, love that.
