Wish I had read this one first. It was better than Monster Island.

Had to give the first in the series 4 stars because this one was so much better. This is a prequel to Monster Island and we find out how it all started. The story is also a nice commentary on the strengths and weaknesses of our modern military. Sometimes America will face problems that don't have military solutions, and using the military to try to solve those problems can sometimes make the problem worse. Suffice to say, David Wellington is a person I'll be reading for a long while.

another fun read, sequel to Monster Island. This one has zombie sheep and the fall of Denver!

i would not have picked up this book if not for the Horror Challenge. It was good -- It was a slow read, but I am not sure quite why, as I liked the story (and a good portion of it takes place in beautiful and lovely, and apparently Zombie ridden Colorado) -- and the "quotes" from news sources and such sprinkled throughout the book included a LiveJournal entry. Funny! and quite enjoyable.

I enjoyed the characters a lot more in this book then in the first book, 'Monster Island'. But I felt like the entire story was building up to this huge epic ending. And then it just fizzled out. I have found that when I'm about twenty pages from the end of this book and the first in the trilogy, I"m asking myself how Wellington is going to tie all his loose ends in the book with so few pages left, and how he does it is by killing everyone. He did it in 'Monster Island', and again in 'Monster Nation'. I wonder if he's going to kill everyone off in 'Monster Planet'.

Monster Nation is the sequel/prequel to Monster Island -- It's interesting if you've read MI, and it's good, but not as tight. To be fair to Mr. Wellington, the narrative structure of Monster Nation is different from Monster Island, and he remarks in the Author's Note that it was a more difficult book to write.

Now, just to voice my own pet peeve -- the book was published with a handful of spelling and grammar errors that could have been caught by a decent editor. These few, small mistakes totally distracted me, and maybe that's partly my problem and I should let it go -- the book was enjoyable otherwise.

I have [b: Monster Planet|263549|Monster Planet (Monster Island, #3)|David Wellington|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1401720139l/263549._SY75_.jpg|2175276] ready to go and am excited to finish the Monster Trilogy!

Awesome read!! My favorite part of a zombie apocalypse is when everything starts going to hell in the first place. I find it to be the scariest aspect of the zombie experience. It is the point where no one knows what's going on and you begin to see the complete breakdown of society. Unlike a novel or film set in a post-apocalyptic setting, it is at this stage where you see the true character of people as they deal with something terrible and new, as opposed to the battle hardened, emotionally drained survivors in the future.

Another excellent installment. Such a new idea and everything is so interlinked. It's so amazing that someone can think of this! And it was amazing! On to the next :D
