Lethal Redemption
is the second book in April Hunt's Steele Ops series. This story brings us the story of FBI profiler Grace Steele and Cade Wright of Steele Ops security. Grace and Cade used to be together and in it for the long haul but 9 years ago Cade made a decision that derailed that plan and Grace hasn't forgiven him. Now they have to work together to save a government officials daughter from a cult. The same cult Grace escaped from when she was a young girl. Grace has a lot on her plate from bringing the woman home safe, facing her past, and risking her heart to Cade again.

"She barely survived losing Cade the first time. She didn't know if she could handle it again."

I really enjoy April Hunt's writing and her characters. My struggle with this was the plot line itself . One of my least favorite story lines are ones that have to do with cults. But that aside the story kept my interest and I really loved Grace and Cade's relationship. They worked really well as a team. Their connection both emotionally and physically was realistic and believable. Grace is such a bad a** woman who doesn't take sh*t from anyway and I admired that. She wasn't your typical woe is me damsel in distress. Yes, she wasn't perfect and had emotional trauma that still haunted her, but she didn't let it hold her back. She took every situation by the reins and owned it.

"Grace was so exhausted from all of the heart. She wanted hope. She wanted trust. She wanted to redemption. Most of all, she wanted them

Lethal Redemption
was a good addition to the Steele Ops series. I am very excited for the next book in the series and I am dying to get into Roman Steele's head.

I don't often read romantic suspense, but I really enjoyed Lethal Redemption. It was a fast paced and entertaining read. I am a sucker for second chance romances, especially childhood sweethearts, so I was rooting for Grace and Cade from the very start. Throw in the fake relationship trope and lots of action and I was sold! This is book 2 in the series, but can be enjoyed as a standalone. I have not had a chance to read book 1 yet and did not feel lost with the different characters and background of the story/series.

Grace was a really intriguing heroine. I loved her intelligence and take no prisoners attitude. Her chemistry with Cade was undeniable and their banter and back and forth was fantastic. As much as I loved Grace and Cade though, the cause of their separation didn't quite sit right with me. It felt too sudden and drastic after hearing about their supposed epic love. Second chance always has lots of angst, but I almost felt like this had too little. Yes, nine years have passed, but things flipped relatively quickly. I didn't like that things fell to Grace with the drama at the end either. I felt like Cade needed to do more groveling and play a more active role this time around.

The plot of the story and discussion about cults was fascinating. I thought the writing was stellar and I really felt like I was getting a glimpse into that world. The different layers and ideaology behind the fictitious Order of the New Dawn were well thought out and made for a compelling and unique backdrop for the story. This was an action packed read and I didn't see some of the twists coming. This is my first April Hunt book, but I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series.

Lethal Redemption

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from Netgalley but all opinions provided are my own.

April Hunt’s Lethal Redemption offers a cornucopia of tropes for the romance lover: it’s a second chance, lovers-to sorta enemies-to lovers, best friend’s sibling romance with plenty of thrills.

Cade, Steele Ops employee and brother to Zoey (whom we met in the first book in the series), is willing to do anything to re-kindle his relationship with Grace. They grew up together and dated for several years when, without any advance notice, Cade re-upped his military contract and he and Grace split up. Now their relationship is mostly comprised of a combo of antagonistic and so-cold-you’ll-get-frostbite treatment. Not exactly conducive to a deep romantic connection.

But then the Steele Ops and the Vice President ask FBI profiler Grace to assist with a rescue mission. The VP’s daughter is living in a cult that Grace was a member of as a child. Of course, this mission will require that Grace confront her own past and the partner she’s unwillingly saddled with—Cade.

The sexual tension between Cade and Grace is great, but the real challenge for them is the emotional work they both have to do to get anywhere close to a HEA. I wanted a bit more groundwork on how their separation actually happened—the treatment felt a tad vague—but Hunt does provide sufficient background into why it’s so hard for Grace to learn to trust again.

Cade and Grace have some confronting & self-reflecting to do, and both handle it maturely, without anything feeling too angsty. I love how Grace eventually shows that she’s willing to fight for them, and she becomes someone who’s not willing to let decisions be made for her.

While this book didn’t hit me quite as hard as the previous book in the series did, Lethal Redemption’s got the “good stuff” I’m starting to associate with an April Hunt book: sexy, consuming romance set against a dramatic, fast-paced story, and a set of characters that I really like spending time with. Can’t wait for Roman’s story!

I've been enjoying these characters, and this series so much! This is book 2, and it's a second chance romance.

Grace Steele grew up, from age 13 on, as the only girl in a family of boys. Her Aunt Cindy took her in, along with Cindy's 4 crazy teenage sons, Grace's cousins. But from age 5-13, after the death of her father, she lived with her mother in a cult. Those years are still painful for her to think about, and she's locked it all away for years. Now, she's an FBI agent, and profiler, and she's been tasked with rescuing a VIP's daughter from the very cult she grew up in. Now all her bad memories and feelings are returning, along with another thing from her past, her childhood sweetheart turned heartbreak, Cade Wright.

Cade Wright works with his 4 best friends in their private security firm, Steele Ops, doing jobs the government and military can't, or won't, do. Before that he worked as a D.C. detective, and before that, he was an Army Ranger. 9 years ago, when he signed up for another 4 years in the Army, without talking about it with Grace first, and ruining all the plans they had for their future, he lost her, and he's regretted it every day since. When the case comes up that's forcing her to revisit her painful past, he insists on being right there with her, both to help her heal, and watch her back during their undercover op. He's also determined to make her want to give him a second chance.

Cade and Grace had always had mega chemistry, even when she was acting like she hated him, and I loved their dynamic. I have a love/hate relationship with second chance romance. It usually has SO MUCH ANGST, but this one didn't have a ton, and I was thankful. There had been so much time in between, plus they both really had to be focused on the case, and always looking out for danger, so I guess that kept it from being overly dramatic. Additionally, part of the main drama came from them both finally getting honest about their pasts, both as a couple and individually, in order to truly move on. I appreciated their connection, and I loved their banter.

Cade and Grace both have awesome families, and I loved any time they were all together. Grace's cousin Roman will be the hero of book 3 and I can't wait for that story! He's so grumpy, and surly, and I love it. Getting to see the other new employees of Steele Ops was fun too. Tank is so great, and I would love to see him get his own story one day!! I liked that there was a little more closure here between Cade and his long-lost father, General Wilcox, Steele Ops' benefactor. I felt that was left pretty open-ended in book 1, after Cade and his sister Zoey (the heroine of book 1) found out about their connection to him. I was glad to see that resolved more completely.

The suspense plot was exciting, and you were always waiting for everyone in the cult to find out Grace and Cade's true intentions. It kept me on my toes, and I was always waiting for the fallout. Most of those poor people were so scarily misguided it was just sad. Of course, many of them had turned downright evil in order to comply with the wishes of the community, and it's leaders. It was an interesting look into cults and brainwashing, without getting overly technical. Grace really understood these people, having been in the cult herself, and she also knew how best to reach them, with her understanding of psychology and the human psyche, as a profiler. I loved watching Cade follow her lead, and be happy and proud that she let him have her back. They were awesome together.

I really enjoyed this story, and I'm looking forward to dropping back into this world again for book 3!

My introduction to April Hunt's work could not have gone better. Lethal Redemption is an action-packed novel full of intrigue, cults, and a rambunctious family. Although this is a sequel, new readers (like me) can jump right in without any prior knowledge of the previous book - though after having read this one I will FOR SURE be going back for Deadly Obsession. If you enjoy second chances at love that pack a punch, look no further than this book!

Seventeen years ago, Grace Steele ran away from her mother and the cult that had stolen her childhood. Driven by her need to understand people, she became one of the FBI's finest profilers. But when the Vice President's daughter disappears in the same cult she escaped, she will need to finally face her past - and survive working with the one guy who broke her heart. Cade Wright seriously screwed up nine years ago - he is well aware it was his fault and he will do anything for a second chance. Even go undercover in a cult.

I loved this book. It was nonstop from beginning to end. Grace is a toughie and I loved watching her not only as a special agent but a strong woman. She is tough and calls herself and others on their stuff with no hesitation. Cade is also a Man. Like a real, live, emotionally sensitive, aware of his flaws as a man - Man. It is a joy. He is hot and smart and knows that Grace is beautiful and brilliant and he will do anything for a second chance. Their relationship is complicated and real - and everything that is great about a good second chance romance.

The only thing that stopped this from being a four was - I really wanted more of them the first time around - I wanted to see them before everything went wrong. It also ended in what felt like an abrupt way... But that could be because on the ebook there is a like bonus story and so this one ended at 53%....

The question of the day for me is this: how have I not read an April Hunt book before? Have I been living under a rock? This book was right up my alley with a strong heroine, former military hero, and a crime to solve all wrapped into one fantastic story. I had the hardest time putting this book down to go to work...or sleep...or eat. Because April sucked me into this world of crime fighting and cult busting, and it made me reconsider my career path. Not that I would make a good FBI agent. Because I wouldn't, trust me.

Grace Steel never had any intention of becoming involved with the Order of the New Dawn again, after escaping the cult's clutches seventeen years ago. But it's hard to say no to the Vice President of the United States when he asks you to do something. Sarah Brandt, his daughter, is missing, and they think she has been brainwashed into joining the cult and its followers. Grace doesn't want to see the young woman get hurt, but what she must do to get inside the cult is too much, even for her. Cade Wright is her ex, her childhood sweetheart, who abandoned her after her college graduation to do another tour of duty. They had plans, but he threw them away and she never knew why. In order to gain access to the Order, they must pose as an engaged couple, and it's going to take everything for Cade to rekindle their relationship and keep Grace safe.

Grace and Cade had a really strong bond, so it was especially intriguing to see what happened to it when they came together after nine years apart. First there was the one-night stand months earlier, which Grace desperately tried to ignore. Then there was the constant glances, the burning between them that looked like hatred but felt like passion. It was all so much emotion, and the reader could definitely feel it throughout the book. Now the backstory - I don't think Cade groveled enough, to be perfectly honest. His reasoning was glossed over, with Grace suddenly feeling guilty once she realizes why he left, but there is no apology, no discussion really over why it happened. It's discussed but never resolved. One minute she's pissed at him, and then the next, everything is all good. Don't get me wrong - I loved the romance, their chemistry was off the charts, and their love was heartfelt. But I felt we could have used more resolution when it came to the conflict.

Now that I have discovered April Hunt, I'm going to need to add her books to my to-read pile. Got to make up for lost time!

“Don’t look at me like that.”
“Look at you like what, Gracie? Like you’ve been itfor me since the second you walked into my life?”

Lethal Redemption is the first April Hunt book I’ve read, though I don’t believe it’ll be the last. It follows FBI profiler Grace Steele and veteran and former detective Cade Writer on a mission to infiltrate the cult she grew up in to rescue the Vice President’s daughter.

I read a lot of historical and contemporary romance, but not many romantic suspense or thrillers. It’s a subgenre I’m trying to break into, since I love romances with a bit of danger for our leads. It’s been a hit and miss process as I search to find authors who are a good fit for my tastes, and April Hunt is definitely an author I’m interested in reading more from.

Grace and Cade were teen sweethearts whose relationship ended when Cade decided to reenlist in the army. Now almost a decade later, they’re thrown back together. Cade is working with Grace’s cousins at a private security firm, and he knows this is his one shot to win back her heart. Personally I wanted a little bit more angst and tension from their relationship, Grace and Cade decide to fake a relationship for the purpose of infiltrating the cult and very quickly it turns into a real second chance. I found myself wishing it was a bit more drawn out.

Still, this was a fast-paced and engaging story that reminded me of all of my favorite crime shows. Though this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. It included an excerpt of the third book, which immediately hooked me and I can’t wait to check it out.

FBI profiler Grace Steele has a new mission - she needs to rescue the Vice President's daughter from a Cult. More specifically a cult that she grew up in for the first 13 years of her life - Order of the New Dawn. To help her on this mission is no one other than Cade Wright, the one person that Grace does not want to spend any more time with.

Grace and Cade were the best of friends and then eventually childhood sweethearts, but they haven't spent much time together in the past 9 years. I loved Cade and Grace's chemistry right from the beginning of this book! There was so much sexual tension between Cade and Grace and I was here for it. I loved the way these two obviously cared so much about each other, even though they had so many issues that they needed to resolve. And did I mention that Grace is a badass heroine with plenty of sass (always my favorite type of heroine).

The New Dawn aspect had me so creeped out. And I'm pretty sure that was the purpose. I can't imagine growing up in a place where you are so brain-washed into believing whatever the "Father" figure tells you to believe. I enjoyed the fast paced action and was rooting for Cade and Grace to get in and out of the compound safely.

Although this was book #2 in the Steel Ops series, I had no problem following along with the plot or characters. If you're looking for a second chance romance with sizzling sexual tension, witty banter and added suspense that will hook you in from the first page then this is your book!
