Love this, probably one of my favorite series I've read in some time :)

This was a very interesting series. I loved the characters, the setting and the interaction between the characters.

This was the third book in the series and I'm impressed how well the author did with keeping me captivated in the story and
still caring about the characters. What a great series! I will be following this author from now on and checking out what he
writes!

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. I am actually quite angry about this. The first half was so much better than the The Wretched of Muirwood. The pacing and the plot were really good and interesting, but it all changed at the halfway point. The religious motives were really off-putting, like many reviewers already pointed out. I actually have no clue what kind of religion "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" is, but that didn't matter since religion is so prominent. You can't help but notice it and it really pulls you out of the story. Colvin was also really annoying throughout the book. At first I thought his character would develope, but then he behaves like an absolute misogynist when
Spoiler Lia thought he would marry her.
There were some comments that rubbed me the wrong way. How Lia is more powerful and that bothers him. Like? Sexist much. The nail in the coffins was the fact that the main villain is a woman who only recruits women into her little evil clan or whatever. It was repulsive.

"It came to pass" ... that there were even MORE LDS parallels in this book than there were in the last one.

It was still a really good read, but I found myself telling my husband "and now my book said THIS, and now THIS" and he was pretty shocked and surprised! Truthfully, I am having some personal struggles with my faith I purposely stay away from christian novels as I get more than enough religion with weekly Sunday teachings. I didn't expect to find so much here in a fictional fantasy recreational read.

Relgious symbolism aside (I do NOT think you have to be LDS for this book to feel "spiritual", there are basic christian references to "the flood" and "the first parents" and just the constancy of "the medium" god-like presence) ... I DID enjoy the story. Once we got through the temple ... I mean abby, there was plenty of action. There was even some romance, I had not been sure that was going to develop. There was some heartbreak ... really, I was heartbroken along with the character. I have a feeling it will work out, but I guess I'll have to continue on.

... I did get a little tired of them mooning over apples though.

I throughly enjoyed this book. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on a lengthy review as many others already have and hit all the main points. But to me this was a pleasant book. I didn't think it seemed to "religious" as others have mentioned, or at least I didn't interpret it that way, and as a middle book in a trilogy, I think it was really nice and not just a lot of empty filler or build up.

Better than the first, though still a little cliche in areas and a continuation of the same religious elements.

Good Story but too much fluff

When you remember that the protagonist is a 15-year-old girl then all of the fluffy does he love me do I love him romantic stuff makes sense. And while I am a fan of romance books it just seemed so unnecessary for this book. A lot of the explanation and expansion on how the medium works also started to seem a bit preachy almost. That is the type of content that would make a good companion book but again I felt it just took away from the main storyline.

This was a solid follow up to The Wretched of Muirwood. A little more magic and exposition, as well as straight up adventures and fighting. Looking forward to the last installment.
