I really enjoyed “Designing your life” so I figured I’d enjoy this one more, but some things just didn’t sit that well with me... I found the chapter on how to “properly” quit your job really just too much, given that most people leave a job because they’re unhappy with something about their workplace. The idea of bending over backward for your workplace if you’re leaving seems a little over the top. No workplace would do that for an employee, but for some reason an employee should do that just to show them they’re a good sport?! I agree with leaving on good terms, but it’s got to go both ways.

I think ultimately this book kind of cemented to me that these guys are older and of a bit of a different time and mindset when it comes to work environments. And that’s fine, but I think they’re talking about a mindset that’s soon to be considered past, and we really need to adopt a mindset that’s focused more on the workers than the workplace for the future. Though maybe I’m just a bit too anti-corporation / anti-capitalism for this kind of book...

Has some pretty good advice throughout the book. I also liked that there are exercises to put the advice into practice. Definitely going to try that out.

Wow, that was fantastic! I’m a fan of design thinking and this book hit the spot! Like many amazing practical book, there’s homework -_-. I have not done them, since I listened to this book while multitasking. But yes, similar to High Performance Habits, I’ll get a little notebook, set an afternoon assise, and nerd out on the practices and activities.

I love that the authors included career transitioning, options, and the how to. Too many books talk about just the being at work part and don’t have enough on how to go though the thinking and designing process. Genuine and practice advice all around. Can’t wait to read their first hit: How to Design Your Life!

i enjoyed this. as someone who’s recently taken on my first office job, i think this had a lot of good info that helped me think about my life.

some good concepts to remember:
- the quality of outcome isn’t the same as the quality of decision
- make life decisions multiple choice and narrow them down
- make lists and do things with systems and order eg if you’re stressed, list everything you do and start categorising them and seeing what you can modify or delegate
- you can redesign your work life in quiet ways that work for you without making radical sudden changes
- getting a new job can come from doing lots of networking and leaning into curiosity
- don’t burn bridges when quitting
- everyone has a unique mix of expression, impact, money that works for them and you don’t have to be totally fulfilled by your paid work

Revision it instead of quitting it. Good negotiating tips and how to actually figure out what you want vs need
