The book started out strong and I thought I would enjoy it more than the previous 2. I liked Jasper & Sloane, but this book proved that Elsie Silver does the same thing in every single book.

Once the characters initiate physical intimacy, it is ALL that occurs for the remainder of the book until the 3rd act breakup/drama. It’s her MO in every single book in this series and by the 3rd one… I’m tired.

Every time I read a Chestnut Springs book I think oh my god this couldn’t get any better and every time it does.

I’m not usually a fan of friends to lovers but the tension in this was sooooo good. Those hotel scenes were so hot 🥵 Jasper Gervais is just all round yum even if he is traumatised and emotionally stunted (but that the way we like them really)

I also absolutely adore Harvey - he’s an icon and is always eager to provide some much needed comic relief and i’m hoping he gets his own HEA at some point.

Anyway, some of my fav lines from the book include:

“Fuck my safety. If I died riding Jasper Gervais in the driver’s seat…. Out with a bang so to speak

You’re not my fucking friend. You’re just mine

Take your clothes off Sloane

Also some spoiler-y tropes:
• Friends to lovers
• Runaway bride
• There was only one bed
• Cowboy (kinda) x ballerina

this book hit home in a lot of ways. sloane’s people pleasing tendency was so relatable and the daddy issues on top of that? girl, same. and then jasper’s depression was relatable too. together, they were probably my fave chestnut springs couple so far, jasper is def my fave man.
this book started out super fast paced, the middle felt a little slow to me and then the end picked up again and i was left swooning. another solid installment in this small town series :) i was glad for another view of the eatons with them being jasper’s found family

wish they cooked a little more before all of the romance thing happened, like a little booth and brennan situation.

This book felt different than the first two in this series. I may be in the minority when I say I loved it for that diversity though! This story felt more realistic and real than the others, like I truly could imagine myself in Sloane’s shoes. I love the fantasy of the first two books, but this one being like a slap of reality made my heart happy.
If you’re not big into explicit details, I’m not sure Elsie Silver is the author for you at this point. I’m not the biggest fan but I’ve learned Chapters 20-25 are the ones with the nitty gritty and if I’m not feeling it I can skim or skip.
Other than that, my only wish was that Sloane’s identity that was portrayed in this book was less centered on a good man rewriting bad men’s wrongs and more about her regaining her confidence herself. I understand it’s important to the story to have Jasper’s support and inspiration to stand up to bullies, but I also think there could have been more focus on Sloane and her transformation as a woman without feeling at times like she only had the confidence to do so because she had another man behind her… telling her what to do…
