Good start to a series. I like Faith's cheery but still a little bit sarcastic personality, and I'm relieved thar she hasn't been characterized as obnoxiously jolly with a chip on her shoulder like too many paranormal fantasy heroines. Faith's personality is probably a minefield to characterize, because she's big, and everyone (except the characters in the issue) is talking about it. I commend the writer for making her seem like a a person!

I also enjoyed the humor in the book, which pokes fun at itself and its readers by making references to comic book tropes.

I really liked this for a new debut, but I felt like there are still some kinks to be worked out. Hoping the next issue will be even better!

A partial galley of this comic was kindly provided through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to love this comic! :(

I did enjoy the story line, although it was not something new and overly exciting in itself. I also enjoyed the variety of body shapes and skin colours represented in the comic.

I did, however, find that the cover image is misleading in regard to the quality of the illustrations found within the comic itself. I really liked the style and colouring of the cover image, but was unpleasantly surprised that the illustrations are not of such quality on the inside.

The illustrations are not bad or terrible, but they are simply not as good as I expected them to be. Or maybe they are simply not to my taste. There were some awkward postures, as well as numerous facial renderings which looked strange or unnatural. Faith's boss, some of the prisoners, and even Faith herself sometimes looked scarier than the actual villains (in my opinion).

I enjoyed the style of the daydream/dream sequences more than the style of the drawings within the actual story.

Overall, I did like this comic and I would like to see what happens next. I do not think that I would purchase this comic for myself though, but maybe as a gift to someone else.

I really loved this.
My favorite thing that that the MC's weight is not the main focus in this comic series! Which is so great, because more often than not, when a MC is overweight it is the primary focus.

I also enjoyed the snippets of background info that we go through the comic. The formatting was nice and easy to read. One of my biggest issues with the layout of some comice/graphic novels is that speech bubbles en up in the crease of the pages and that can be hard to read and cause the reader to lose some of the enjoyment or impact of a certain scene.

Overall I have to say that this was a great start and it felt a lot longer than it was. I will be reading volume 2 (and probably all of the other issues.)

Pros: Actually fat, fat protagonist portrayed respectfully. Interesting and engaging beginning to a new superhero story.

Cons: None.

(In my video review I answer the questions "does it represent/portray well?", "did it make me think?" "does it perpetuate healthy ideals", "how was the writing?", "did I enjoy reading it", and "what do I think it accomplished best?": https://youtu.be/_tqvDpItPmw?t=1m12s)

When I first heard about this comic book series, I knew that it was one that I needed to read because the fact that it was an overweight female superhero. Both these concepts are rare, I mean the female superhero is on the rise but I don't know about you, I have never read about an overweight superhero and I commend the writers and illustrators of the comic for including it in the story. Even more condemned however is the fact that her weight is not mentioned and does not hinder her in any way to complete her missions. Although I condemn this highly, I do think that her outfit was somewhat unflattering in the illustrations and that it could have been drawn in a better way but this was only a minor issue that I had with the comic.
I did like the plot of the comic and from the first two that I read from NetGalley both had a contained story and a broader arc which I did enjoy and would be interested in seeing where the overarching narrative would pan out. I often thought, however, the contained stories, especially with Faith's secret identity, were kind of pointless as they were often just her own thoughts rather than adding to the plot. This meant that I did not really care about her co-workers with the lack of development there. The end of the issues was quite good, leaving big cliffhangers at the end quite did make me want to continue reading.
The illustrations were OK, I don't think that they were anything special and I did not really love how people were illustrated in the issues, however, the city scenes and just other aspects of the graphic novel were well drawn and I enjoyed them.

The Verdict:

Faith is an enjoyable comic book series that is interesting and fresh in a world where there are many graphic novels to pick from. This one is worth the read although it has some minor flaws.

One of the things I love most about Faith, is that Faith is technically a plus-size superhero, but it isn't a big deal at all. I don't think I've ever seen a plus-size superhero before and I believe Faith can be an extremely important character and comic for many people.

To say Faith is a psiot, and has powers that ordinary people do not, she is extremely relatable and I absolutely adore her. The fantasy sequences are absolutely something I've personally done myself and I love that the first issue immediately lets us see multiple parts of her life and her personality. Faith is a superhero who's aware of her limits, and that she isn't entirely invincible (unlike some other characters and comics I have read in the past). She feels real, and absolutely someone you could meet, or pass walking down the street. The cliffhanger at the end of the first issue also left me wanting to continue as soon as possible, and the mystery around the maybe-psiots (I also enjoyed her monologue about working on that title) was also compelling.

This comic is honestly wonderful and I adore Faith, she's such a great protagonist.
