Incredibly necessary book. It goes so much deeper than the regular societal perception and knowledge of race and discrimination in medicine and highlights the stories of individuals, cases, and movements that are crucial to understanding the justified iatrophobia and climate today. Very well researched and detailed book with many notes and a comprehensive bibliography at the end

Useful information that covered a wide timeline. A bit repetitive and hard to follow at times. I think this was a bit too academic for me, a lot of it went over my head, and I'd like to revisit it sometime in the future to really study it.

Wow. I listened to this audiobook, and it flew by. I have read a couple of books regarding race and medical history, but this is the most complete, thought-provoking one.

Some particular details a bit outdated (published in 2007) but the overall message is not. Of course not at all a light read, but a valuable one.

Note that there is description of some fairly graphic/brutal stuff right at the beginning, but there's nothing especially *worse* than that in the rest of the book (though of course it talks about plenty of terrible stuff, but just FYI that the entire book isn't just that kind of content on every page-- so don't be discouraged from sticking with the rest, if the beginning is a bit hard to stomach).
