This book had me reading non stop. I know there are many negative reviews but I actually thought this was a great read with one hell of a plot twist. I had guessed part of how the story was going to go but it turned out more disturbing and dark than I had imagined. This felt like embarking on a twisted journey through madness and sociopathy. I remember being so annoyed during the Amy diary parts and then all the sudden... You are the fool, characters are pretty much talking to you directly as a reader, mocking you and showing you how easily you settle for the stereotypical characters and bland uncomplicated stories. Next thing you know you are realizing the true sickness that humans are capable of. Psychopathy? I don't know. I think this darkness is more human and common than we'd like to admit to ourselves and psychopathy is a good word to hide behind. I don't think I would call it that, somehow the characters are incredibly human as well.

One thing that striked me reading this book: the men vs. women/mysoginy/sexism theme which is used throughout the entire plot. I really don't know how I feel about it. It's a big part of the book: Nick's problems with women, his father's hate of women, Amy, Amy's mother, Andie, Noelle... I feel like each of these women represented some form of evil or bad trait. The men in the book all had excuses, with the women it was harder to feel sympathetic. Apart from maybe Amy? Through it all part of me was rooting for her, weirdest thing.

Anyway, great read, couldn't put it down. Not sure about the ending just yet, but how else can you even end such a book? I can't really think of any other way really, in a way it's quite satisfying.

Amazing book right up until the last 30 pages or so when the author must have given up. This shit ended more nonsensically than LOST.
