Some good insight but a rather redundant read. Also this book took me forever because I kept getting bored. A long and treacherous read, with occasionally agreeable insight.

This book is a mammoth of a read and at times can be tedious and long winded. However it's worth remembering that this is just as much a business biography as it's is a business development book. It's also a combination of two books: life and work principles into one.

Does have some very handy cheat sheets for the topics / lessons.

I read this because Adam Grant seemed to have a rather positive view of the culture created by Ray Dalio at Bridgewater. However, this felt rather trite. I firmly disagree that only successful people are well-placed to give us advice - there is much more to it than that, and many of these suggestions are either not good enough, or simply do not address the systemic root of many issues.

I got this book because my boss at work wanted our group to consider it. To be honest, I haven't read this book from cover to cover. I enjoyed Ray Dalio's autobiographical section at the beginning, which is well written, engaging, and shares a lot of his accumulated wisdom. The next section was about life principles, which was okay, but a little more tedious, because he repeats a lot of the same "wisdom" over again, this time couched as principles to live by. By the time I got to work principles, we weren't talking about it at work any longer. Most of the group had rejected Dalio as too harsh and Machiavellian. Personally, I find his candor refreshing, but the details of his company's work structure don't really interest me enough to invest more time into this book.

I would learn better from actual stories/contexts instead of a dry list of dry principles.

(Read as ebook)
What is it about?
It's a book of business advice/self-help from Ray Dalio, a founder of a private equity firm. It talks a bit about Dalio's background, how he uses his values/principals to inform his goals and tasks, and then rattles off a bunch of principals that are used at his firm.

What did I think?
It was alright. I like the idea of thinking of yourself or your business as a "machine" that you feed inputs in order to get outputs. If you're not getting the outputs you expect, you try to figure out why the "machine" isn't working.

The big list of principals wasn't very engaging, but some of them were interesting. I found the importance of getting "in sync" to be interesting, as well as a singular "responsible party".
