One's I Liked:
Vampire, Scones, and Edmund Herondale: Well, Herondale is in the title isn't it? I was bound to love it!
The Midnight Heir: Caution-Will and Tessa sightings! Prepare to bawl as you remember how perfect they are together, and their impending doom.
Saving Raphael Santiago: Awww, who knew Raphael had a heart...
What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything: Why didn't The Mortal Instruments have more Alec/Magnus time?
The Last Stand of the New York Institute: This novella actually adds depth to The Mortal Instruments. Whereas all the others are fun, this one shows how evil the Circle really was.
The Course of True Love (And First Dates): Again, why wasn't this scene in The Mortal Instruments in the first place??
The Voicemail of Magnus Bane:
SpoilerAs someone who wasn't initally all that upset about the Malec breakup, let me just say, now I am devestated. (Good thing I've already read [b:City of Heavenly Fire|8755785|City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6)|Cassandra Clare|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1389748702s/8755785.jpg|13629068])

Ones I Did Not Like
What Really Happened in Peru: I was expecting a crazy adventure Magnus had gone on, and instead ended up with four, ten ish paged stories of different times he was in Peru. And I would have been ok with that, had one of the stories actually told why he was banned from Peru. Yes, I'm not kidding. You never find out. Because apparently Magnus doesn't know himself! Well if that's true why did you write a novella about it?
The Runaway Queen: Again, this novella felt unnecessary. Sorry, but I don't give a damn about Magnus's life before he met Will and Tessa.
The Rise of the Hotel Dumort and The Fall of the Hotel Dumort: I don't care about Camille, I don't care about the random murders in the '20's or '70's, I don't care about vampires other than Raphael and Simon.

I guess this means I like 70% of the stories. Not bad!

The enigmatic and flamboyant warlock, Magnus Bane. He has lived for a long time and he has grazed his presence in both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series in big ways. He can also be found in the margins of The Shadowhunter's Codex with his cool eccentricity. Suffice it to say his alluring personality and sharp wit always sets us intrigued and then as you would have it, authors Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson and Sarah Rees Brennan put up 11 short stories about various instances and moments of his life.

First released as separate ebooks and later published in this anthology titled The Bane Chronicles with Godfrey Gao (who played Bane in the Mortal Instruments movie) on the cover. i actually waited to finish City of Heavenly Fire, the last TMI book before taking this up and that had been the best decision I made because I've had the time of my life reading this book.

Laughter, sadness, conflict, giddiness, the sense of the bitter sweet. Magnus' story brought so much out of us. Be it in Peru, England or New York, Magus' history brings out a sense of awe in us readers and fans of this fictional world. There were some favorites among the 11 and some were less but really, I have never laughed so much as I did while reading about the colorful life he led. Magnus is my favorite character and always will be. People forget the life of a warlock isn't easy, and Magnus has lived for centuries.

My favorite moments were definitely with his fellow warlock friends Ragnor Fell and Catarina Loss, Santiago (vampire) and his first date with Alec. Great job ladies.

My least favorite read in the Shadowhunter saga thus far. I found story to drag in places. There was action, but it was not to the same level of enjoyment as in the other books Cassandra Clare has written. I’m still glad I read this.

I thought I was more invested in Magnus Bane as a principal character. After reading his story, I guess he wasn’t developed into the character I thought he was. I liked him more before reading the series than I do now.

I found the time jumping slightly more difficult to follow then I have in other novels/short stories. I had to refer back to the date that the novella was detailing on several occasions while reading each one so as to help refresh my memory on what time frame I was in.

It was a light read. Didn't capture me like Cassandra's other books and it took me a bit to really get into it. But all in all, I'm glad I read it.

I love Magnus Bane and I love love LOVE the chronicles. Some of the stories are sad, funny, cute and some are all of the above. Loved the back story friendships with Ragnor, Catarina, and Raphael. It makes me sad what happened to two of them. Loved the Magnus and Alec stories too.

Since I love all the Shadowhunter books and Magnus Bane, I expected to like this collection much more. However, I still enjoyed most of the short stories.

Disappointed. That’s what I am right now. 😞
I wanted more chapters about Alec and Magnus. Is that too much to ask?!
And that order of the chapters. So chaotic. 🙄 Why didn’t the authors respect the timeline? I like a book written in the order of the years. But no. Here a chapter was from 1977, the next one from the present, another from 1989 and then back to the present. I hate it when this happens. Especially when the chapters have no connection between them.
Moving on... I think Cassandra would have written a better book on her own. I could feel the change in the writing style so quickly.
Other than that... I liked the fact that I could read some chapters about Magnus’s feelings. This was a good point. 👍 And maybe I would have liked to read more about Magnus and Camille. But once again, some chapters were useless. From my point of view. They didn’t describe important events from Magnus’s life. They felt like fill in pages. That’s it. Am I being harsh? Well, sorry, I’m just trying to be honest here.
