Open, lovely, thoughtful, and didn't put any relationship style over any other. All-round informative and grounding. Big ol' fan.

I wanted this book to be based in the ideas of relationship anarchy and the idea that we can build our relationships to be how we and our partner(s) want. But it was still very focused on the dyad opening up their relationship in a sexual manner, which meant it focused a lot on sex and a lot on pair bonded people, which are two things I wasnāt looking to this book for.

It's an interesting and valid perspective that I'm happy to have learned more about. Don't know if I'd ever label myself polyamorous but I don't fit the strictly monogamous definition either. This book shows you that there's so much in between and really its all up to our own imaginations and ability to turn that into reality through creativity and open communication.

although i don't like the term "designer relationship", i strongly agree with the book's premise that every relationship is unique and we should consciously build each connection instead of going off cultural and personal assumptions. i came to this as someone in a long term polyamorous relationship, looking for even more strategies to make sure everyone's needs are met (like "Polysecure"), but seemingly this book is mostly for people who are newly curious about open relationships. more than half of it is dedicated to showing that non-monogamy isn't evil. and the advice just enumerated ways in which you can go "on a sex adventure". so i personally didn't get anything out of the book, but others might find it more useful

This is probably a very helpful book for someone. I found this very 101 and lacking in practical applications, nuance, and deep theoretical discussion. A good airport read to get someone thinking about this subject matter who hasn't yet before.

This was a gentle & basic overview of non-monogamous relationships, the kind of approachable book you would hand your mom to explain your alternative lifestyle. Thereās nothing new or thought-provoking for people even mildly experienced with this sort of thing, though I did like the idea of thinking of relationships as creative processes rather than work. Also, very cis-het & white, though the authors toss in other mentions here and there. Regardless, pretty inoffensive! Just not for me.
