As great as The Dark Knight Returns and The Killing Joke are, this may be my favorite Batman graphic novel so far.

Quick Synopsis: Killer Croc kidnaps a child for a large ransom. While investigating, Batman's line is snapped and he nearly falls to his death. As Batman gets more involved in the mystery (and more involved with Catwoman!) he is forced to encounter all of his greatest foes.

First, the artwork is outstanding. The male heroes are all extremely buff and gritty, the females all look like super models, and the villains all look completely deranged (which is what you want in a comic book). Hush includes flashback scenes that are drawn in a different style that gives the effect that hazy or black and white sequences give to flashback scenes in movies.

Second, I love Batman / Bruce's inner-dialogue throughout the graphic novel. Bats, a man of few words, clues the reader in on what he is thinking and feeling. Batman is more vulnerable in this novel than anywhere else: he nearly dies in the beginning, he is still mourning the loss of Jason Todd, and he falls in love with Catwoman / Selina Kyle.

Finally, I love the huge cast of characters: Batman, Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Robin (Tim Drake), Superman, Catwoman, Huntress, Killer Croc, Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, the Riddler, Two-Face, Ra's al-Ghul, Talia al-Ghul, Lex Luthor, Scarecrow, Clayface, and even a small cameo of the Penguin. Some reviewers criticize how the entire cast of villains shows up in every Batman graphic novel . . . but I think that's what makes it so fun. The Batman / Superman interactions were particularly enjoyable.

As for the mystery itself . . . it's somewhat predictable. But it's fun.

I had my eyes on this book for years, being a Batman fanatic. Heck, I even love my daughter's Batman board books, I'm so enamored with his character.

That being said, this is one of the better story arcs I've read in comics. Suspense and mystery worth of the Detective, with not a little fear for the characters injected throughout, I was honestly surprised by the end.

It's just...awesome. If you like Batman at all, read this.

Hush like, A Death in the Family and A Killing Joke is a title that is huge in Batman cannon and when it came out must have been an absolute blast. Coming to it later, and as not really that much of a DC devotee, it's all a little to convoluted and its denouement feels as though its been pulled out of the hat (Tah-Dah). It all just feels a little bit far fetched. That said it is a great read and the graphics are fabulous.

It's a crime that I haven't purchased the second volume after all these years.
Hopefully next year.

I had kept it in currently reading section because I wanted to write a proper review for it. However, a lot of time has passed and I can't seem to recall everything from the book apart from it being a delicious read.

This book brought back the memories of finishing a book in one sitting. I finished this one when I had some time to kill and was waiting at a bookstore. I completely forgot the time and the place and lost myself in the richly drawn bylanes of Gotham. This is one of the best-looking comic books I have read till date. The artwork is surreal and modern. The girls are smoking sexy and the actions sequences are well drawn as well.

I loved the story for it gives justice one of two supervillains which I always find otherwise underwhelmed in batman works, Scarecrow and Riddler. Both these villains have a huge potential to wreck havoc in Gotham and for the first time one of them gets on nerves of our caped crusader.

This is a must read for every Batman fan, definitely recommended.
