I wasn’t sure of this book at first because the title didn’t sound super interesting. But wow this book was a work of art.

The writing was incredible and made it easy to connect with Andi and all that she went through. I loved the flashback chapters that slowly helped us to understand what happened 9 years before the present day story. I wasn’t sure if Cory at first because he knew what Andi went through with her dad in the past and still had a good relationship with him in the present day. But those flashback chapters and the letters really helped to understand his thoughts as well.

As someone who comes from a broken home and experienced some of the stuff Andi went through, I loved getting to read this book. There aren’t many books out there like this that I could relate to completely. I wish this was a book that I could’ve read years ago when I was in high school thinking that I was alone in the world.

I will definitely be buying a physical copy once the book is released!

Thank you to the author for a complimentary ebook in exchange for an honest review.

I adored Casey’s previous novel When We’re Thirty, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on The Corey Effect! I read this book on October 3rd, which is the couple's anniversary (and also Mean Girls Day). I'm curious if this is a fun coincidence, or if Casey chose the day before her pub day for their anniversary on purpose!

While I loved this author’s debut, I feel like she knocked it out of the park even further with her sophomore novel. These characters have so much depth, which we learn about through flashbacks to Andi’s past. We know Andi isn’t perfect: the novel opens with a scene where she is having sex with her separated-but-still-technically-married boss. I really enjoyed watching her grow throughout the book as the reason for her estrangement from her father is revealed, as well as her friends’ reasoning for accepting him back into their lives.

The split timeline was a great way to tell this story. Andi and Corey had such a sweet and interesting high school romance. I appreciated that not all the parents were absentee, that in fact Corey’s parents took it upon themselves to step in as would have been realistic.

I loved the nods to When We’re Thirty. For example, Andi’s favorite band is that of the MMC from the previous book. While these two books are complete stand-alones in the same universe, I believe the author mentioned that her third book will tie all of them together.

The Corey Effect features much heavier themes than When We’re Thirty, and I believe that led to an even stronger story. Casey is definitely an author to keep an eye on, and I can’t wait to read her next book!

I received an ARC of this text from NetGalley for an honest review.

The Corey Effect follows Andi Scott, a 28-year-old Communication Manager who has experienced her full load of hurt throughout her life. Andi is determined to make something out of her life, however with a life changing event, and her boyfriend being a jerk and forcing her to go and do things she doesn’t want to do – she returns to her hometown to find that life continues to move on for everyone even once you leave. After 10 years, her friends have married, gotten divorced and married again, not to mention the ever-growing list of children that now fill the friend group. The thriving businesses they developed, the rekindled relationships… shall I go on.
Andi has to decide what she wants in life now, as she learns that everyone in her life – even her own mother has been lying to her and mistreating her.

This book for me was a pain to read. I felt it dragged through storylines, and there was no real relief. Not one character was enjoyable start to finish, all having moments when I wanted to yell at them for choices and this made me feel like reading the book even less.

I sat down and read this book and could not stop. This is an emotional one. Andi vowed to never return to her home town and she kept that promise for ten years until her estranged father died.
.
Returning home memories slap her in the face at every single corner. She is reminded of the bad times but she is also reminded of the good times and her first love, Corey.
.
She must face her past to have a chance at a future with Corey. Wow, did I really root for these two. Can’t wait to read what she writes next.
.
Huge thank you #redadept and the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review

I was attracted to The Corey Effect because of the second chance romance and its inclusion of tough character backstories. Andi's childhood was realistic and painful and I understood all of her complicated emotions.

The prose in this novel was great and flowed well from scene-to-scene. Whenever I had difficulty connecting with a chapter, it was the writing that kept me reading and generally immersed in the overall story.

The childhood moments between Andi and Corey were adorable, and their present-day chats were cosy. I loved the portrayal of his physical affection. Even so, I'm not sure I totally felt the 'Corey Effect.' Ten years is a long time apart and I needed more relationship building/tension for it to truly hit home.

Ultimately, while I found myself engrossed in the author's writing style, I don't think I was quite the target audience. I'm not one for YA romance, even if it was just flashbacks. Emily was also not something I expected, but I'm glad Andi meshed well with their little family.

This was a well written, second chance romance novel!

Andi hasn't been back to her hometown for 9 years. Until her estranged father dies and she goes to attend his funeral. She hopes not to run into her old high school boyfriend (Corey) but she does. She has to learn how to get past the man that she knew as a drunk and learn about the man who sobered up and became a good person in the people's lives that she left behind.

I love how realistic this story was. I love the power of redemption and I'm sad that Andi didn't get to see it from her father. But as she learns more about him and gets close to Corey again, it's just beautiful. I didn't always agree with the choices that Andi and Corey made together that set them apart these 9 years but it's also a bit understandable.

This is the second book I've read of Casey's and I'm a fan!

This book was so cute and I love Corey and Andi. The integrating of the past with the present was very well done. The book was a bit more intense than I expected regarding the trauma she faced with her father but I think it was really well done.

I received an arc through netgalley.
