This was a hard one to rate, between a 1 and a 2.

The positive ~

1 - the team, the first mission, the plans for the ranch

The negative ~

1 - the insta love
2 - the dialogue
3 - the rest of the story

The story was WAY too rushed, and a jumbled mess. I wanted to rate a 1, but I didn't hate it and there were some good ideas, they just were not done well, at all. :/

I debated for a while whether or not I should rate this since I didn't finish it. But here I am, joining the one-star team bc I can't believe the incredibly high rating this book has.

I'll say this though, the beginning started off with a bang, albeit a little more on the gruesome side. Our H and h meet when he rescues her from an Afghanistan stronghold where she was being tortured. Like holy shit??

...and then it all goes downhill from there.

• Insta-lust? Check.
• The asshol— I mean H disrespecting waiters? Check.
• The h blushing over every little thing? Check.
• Horribly cringy sex scenes? Check.
• Wait did I say insta-lust yet? CHECK.

Anyways this book is just not for me but if you enjoy zero sexual tension because insta-lust came knocking real early then, by all means, pick this up because you might really like it.

Great beginning then I don't know if it was just me or not but I got bored during the transition to the ranch...and at about 55%

Oh, dear. Well, I won't be continuing with this series. Spoilers follow.
The characters were okay, I suppose. But there was instalust, with repeated lack of foreplay along with really euphemistic sex. First the plot seemed like military, then suddenly they went to the ranch, then there was a military rescue, and spycraft, and a cancer scare and a pregnancy. It just kept going and going.
There was a distinct lack of commas where needed. Also, if you use "dessert" as a euphemism for sex, spell it correctly. "Desert" does not have the same effect.

Re-read this... realised that I had rated it 2 stars & left no review. Well...

What a fantastic introduction to the King's. Jacob & Tori are great. I do love a romance developing from a rescue... specifically when the woman isn't TSTL... I like a strong and intelligent female lead to be a match against the male.

Brilliant read!

Signs of cruelty start the reader’s experience. It shows that women can be just as brave as men. In a way this beginning sets the tone for the rest of the book. It’s almost a way of putting a face to the men and women who are fighting for our freedom.

Victoria “Tori” Marshall has found a hero in Jacob King. But they seem to save each other. Tori has an interesting proposition for Jacob that he takes her up on. The reader is also introduced to her sister Keelee and I have to say that I was left wanting to know more about her. And the good news is that she has her own story. If you also want to know more, make sure to pick up a copy of book three - titled Adam.

This is not a series that needs to be read in order but you may choose to do that anyway. I read Joseph’s story first and became of fan of this author. Well this book solidified that sentiment. I think she does a great job of paying tribute to the men and women who fight overseas.

The book isn’t that long so if you are so inclined you could get it read in just one day. If you don’t have that kind of time you may find it hard to find the perfect stopping point. Some descriptions can be a little graphic but these are people who are dealing with a war – both abroad and on the home front. Today we don’t like it when an author sugarcoats what is currently going on in our world.

Our author shows the reader that something good can come out of the painful side of war. Sometimes it takes more then one person to help you turn your life around once you come home. I can’t even begin to understand what our men and women have seen or gone through. Just loving them for who they are is a great place to start. And this is a great book to start the Kings of Guardian Series.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
