While I enjoyed this one I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first one. Dune Messiah had less action and more time creeping through with the plot. When it finally ended it seemed like it was made simply to set the story up for the Children of Dune. Here’s to hoping the 3rd Dune book is better then this one.

Definitely much shorter than book one. Though I still feel the story told was amazing covering the many struggles of the individuals, their faith, their powers and consequences for it all.

Some of the characters and dialogue definitely feel like they were written in 1969. A lot if the political intrigue that I wanted to see in the first book was found here. I'm not happy with most parts of the ending....except for Paul. Still not a fan of Herbert's writing. Doesn't flow nicely for me.

The pacing and psychological aspects of the 2nd book make it much easier to read than the first. I enjoyed seeing the development of Alia and what her prowess entails. However the continued self deprecation of Paul, for no reason other than his personal self-loathing, leaves the conclusion unfulfilling. I get that this is a Sci-Fi classic, and did enjoy the book, but there are some aspects that give way to a -now- antiquated culture that was prevalent at the time of the writing. I feel we had a lot of nothing but angst.
Would I read it again, no.
Will I continue the series, yes.
I do not think I will read past Frank Herbert’s original works, however.
