I'm not typically a fan of cozy mysteries, but I really enjoyed this one. There's nothing like a old absolutely Southern mama who is religious, judgemental, nosey as hell, but also happens to be a bookie. Miss Glory B. had me LMAO especially when she went to the club and speed dating event. South out to Cupid.

I'm from New Orleans, but very familiar with Lafayette. I recognized all of the places mentioned in this book. I'm always leary of listening to audiobooks set in or reference Louisiana because of the usually poor accents. Bahni Turpin narrated this one and there were no fake accents and minimal mispronounciatons. You have to be from her to know how to pronounce certain names, i.e. Atchafalaya.

My only disappointment is that we have to wait until 2024 for the next one. There is a preview at the end though and it sounds like its going to be good.

SpoilerLet me tell you something, Glory was a CHARACTER! No filter, nothing. Her best friend is found dead and is presumed a suicide, but Glory knows better, or at least she thought she did. Delphine, her daughter, is in town and is really there for a reprieve from her ensuing divorce, and gets caught up playing detective with Glory. Delphine done cheated on her husband and is now falling for a long time friend/someone else’s husband. Shameful. Now I knew Shirley was dirty and hateful, but she gave herself away to Delphine before Glory caught her on camera dumping her trash cans and slashing her tires. Jocelyn was a surprise, but she seemed like the type of fake nun to be a hussy and kill someone over a man. I’m glad Gus turned his life around and got away from Milton, Amity’s ex-boyfriend. He clearly had a level head. This book was soo good. And the cat? We can’t forget the cat, Patti.

Ms. Glory Broussard is too funny. I enjoyed all her sleuthing throughout the book. I can’t wait to see what she gets into next. Fantastic read!

‼️ New Cozy Mystery Series Alert ‼️

Good golly - Glory Be was absolutely amazing! The first book in the Glory Broussard Mystery series follows Glory as she investigates a murder, runs her OTB enterprise, reconnects with her daughter, quells the Church gossip and questions the local barista about his coffee skills. This was such a fun series debut and I cannot wait to see where Danielle Arceneaux takes the story from here!

I love a mystery book set in a small town. Unlike in a big city, communities are very connected, so when a murder happens you can see how it hurts a community of folks versus just the victim's families.

I also love that this book is set in the South, we need more books set in the South please! The South's geography is very diverse, you can go from a city to a small town to having a car chase on dirt roads. Also, everyone felt so familiar to me because they reminded me of my grandparents and people in my community who were born and raised in the South (I'm from Chicago.)

Anyways, while there were a few things that I loved about this book I often felt like I wasn't deep into the mystery. I often felt like we were pulled out of the mystery to deal with Glory's daughter's divorce mess (we didn't need her POV), the feud between Glory and her sister, and then issues between her and members of the church. While, I LOVE drama (I'm petty and messy), it didn't really add to the story. It's not like any of these people ended up on the suspect list. We're weren't always following leads or trying to cross out who could be the killer. It felt a little jumbled. I'm still going to listen/read the next book because I really like Glory! I just hope that the author really keeps up wrapped up in the mystery; we need suspects, clues, high speed chases, mean detectives from the police force trying to keep Glory away from the case.
