I'm not really sure what the point of this book was. It is a mildly interesting slice of life novella, but ultimately doesn't amount to much. It's mostly the chatterings of a man who feels he shouldn't have to work and doesn't get along with the women in his life. I guess I'm not enough of a contemporary lit person to "get" this.

Brilliant story, though the richness of the book is in the narrative more than the plot. The impeccably detailed collage of visuals with deep cultural and psychological nuances, the writing is almost photographic.

Jam-packed with family tensions, but I felt like I couldn't quite get into it, and just as I did - it ended. Still, nice to read more about intricacies of family life in India.

An amazingly well-written novella about a slice-of-life story in an Indian household that suddenly transitions from lower to upper-middle-class. It beautifully depicts the human behavioral aspects of the process, and I found many aspects of it relatable. The ending was masterful, and it reminded me of a quote from the web series Ozark: 'To find instant fortune, sometimes you have to get your hands a little dirty in the business.'
