a STUNNING WWII historical fiction about Bletchley park (now a tourist destination opened up by Kate Middleton) in the UK. It follows Osla, Mab & Beth who are vaguely based on a few different real women that worked on code breaking during the war. Sworn to secrecy by the Official Secrets Act of 1939, these three women who are billeted together become fast friends but one major secret will tear them apart. until in 1947 the year that Phillip marries princess Elizabeth, Beth sends a coded message to them 3 years after she was committed to an insane asylum begging them to break her out. We go back and forth from their time breaking enigma, working with Alan Turing and having a visit from Winston Churchill to what really happened to Beth. I loved the epilogue and authors note and really learning about the real Bletchley park! I had never heard of it before!

this book was OUTSTANDING. i literally couldn't put it down; i picked it back up sometime this afternoon and read it all the way to the end and it was suddenly 9pm.

everything about this book was masterfully done. the characters are imperfect but realistic, and you're hoping for the best for all the heroines at the end of the story regardless of their faults. the pacing and plot were fantastic, and the many twists kept things interesting. there were so many beautiful moments and relationships in this book that could either make your heart soar or make it break into pieces. the historical details were also FANTASTIC. i had some background info on the enigma code and the codebreakers of ww2 before this, but learned so much more (yes ik it's historical fiction but many of the details were historically accurate)

“But something else went on at the same time war did, and that was life. It kept right on going up until the moment it stopped...”

The final friends choose 24 in ‘24 done! This  was fun because it brings me back to some of my early love of historical fiction. Kayla and I have read this genre for ages and it was fun to revisit. Kate Quinn does an impeccable job of drawing you into the time and making you feel connected to each character. I am incredibly interested in the real life Osla and her relationship with Prince Phillip, and will be reading more about her soon.

A very good book and do highly recommend, especially for those interested in WW2.

Being a big fan of WW2 and especially Enigma and Bletchley Park, Was interested to see how Kate Quinn worked historical info into the book. Answer: very nicely done. Not over the top and didn't use actual people too much (just more by reference/background for most, except for Dilly Knox & Prince Philip) but it fitted really well into her work of fiction! :)

Only slight gripe (for me at least) was the book dragged on in the middle stages (could have been at least 100 pages less!) and then the ending was rushed.

BUT like I said, it was great, the main characters were well done and very likeable and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

4 Stars ****

My only qualm is that it was a bit too long. Overall very enjoyable with a few fun twists. I loved the references to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip!

There were moments where the pacing felt slightly off or stereotypes were used instead of character depth, but overall, this was an insightful look at an area of WWII history I hadn't heard of before, and I enjoyed the reading experience.
