Aaahahahaha.
For the first half of the story, I didn't really know how it connected to the main series. At the very beginning, I thought it would be connected to a certain thing, but then the connection was never made... until, at exactly 50%, I realized the connection was there the whole time, I was just looking in the wrong direction lol.
Be sure that I am very disappointed in myself.
The theme/plot is not my cup of tea, personally, so I didn't enjoy it that much. But as additional info for the main series, it's amazing, and that's the reason I'm reading all these short stories and novellas.

Feels very different from most of the other material in the expanse yet at the same time feels perfectly at home in the world that the authors’ have established. My favourite of the shorts (so far, still a few to go).

This is one of those stories that was okay-ish, right up to the very end, when it turned very, very good. I should have seen it coming. Definitely better read after reading through Abaddon's Gate.

The author's note on this story says that this was amongst the hardest things they had ever written, and to me it really paid off. A simple but very well told story of vice, misery, and pride in the midst of *The Churn*, a term so evocative that I'm confident I'll be getting alot of use out of it.
