I enjoyed this book. The characters were well defined and the story was unique. however, I warn future readers that they will need to suspend disbelief numerous times as the main character grows up.

This book was beautifully rendered. Very sensory, you feel like you live a languid life in the swamp with Kya, the main character. However. Languid is the key term. Languid and/or slow and boring. Perhaps this just wasn’t the book for me, but I just found it tedious. Almost nothing happens in the whole book. The main character is unrelatable in every way because she has literally been on her own in the wilderness for her entire life, never learning how to human. The only vaguely interesting thing that happened was the ending. I agreed with the way it ended, though I was not surprised by it.

Ultimately, I think the place and the character were well rendered, but I really did not enjoy reading about them.

this story is about the devastating differences between “lonely” and “alone.” a book that spoke to a part of me that i have spent years nurturing, only to be calmed by the soft murmurs of Kya and the Marsh. i found myself clutching the book as i read the last page, devastated that the only text i’ve felt has understood me has come to an end. if you’re familiar with the curse of loneliness, i encourage you to pick up this read.

It was fine. Don’t really understand why everyone in the world and her mother is obsessed tho.
