Carefully crafted mystery that takes place both in the early 20th century and 21st century. The flip flop of time periods made it a little more challenging to get started with the story but once the scene was set, it was very engaging. For those who like mysteries in both contemporary and historical settings.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of The Lake House. I loved the book. It has all of the features Kate Morton does well-- secrets, scenery, layers of intrigue.

Kate Morton is brilliant. This was an enjoyable read, although her books did get a little tighter going forward. Characters were good, story strong. One of the last twists was too much of a coincidence… so I knocked it back to 4.5… but, still, time in a Kate Morton story is time well spent. 4.5

I enjoyed this book very much. It easily could have been confusing with several cases going on at once, but everything wrapped up neatly. I only wish it wasn't so easy to guess the outcome of the two cases. The best books are ones that cause me to guess 'whodunit' wrong rather than guessing the twists before they are twisted.

As far as character development goes, the author did well with the characters from the past, but I failed to connect with Sadie Sparrow. There was just something missing there. I wanted to feel something for her but there was just something missing that caused me to not be able to connect to her. I did, however, care a lot about Alice and Eleanor and felt a connection to both of them.

Had to stay up late to finish this one. Longer review in the future...still need to process all that transpired!
