This book was very fast paced. Something was always happening. I really enjoyed the tour of vaults in the beginning. I wasn't expecting the amount of gory details but I don't mind it. Great read if you like sci-fi/aliens.

It started back in 1947 when an unidentified craft crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, with no survivors. The military caravan transporting the debris and remains, forced to pull over to wait out a sandstorm, is ambushed, everyone murdered.

In the present day there is an encounter between the USS Carl Vinson and two UFOs that take down the military jets sent to check them out.

I wanted so much to enjoy this book. It sounded like the type of book that fascinates me: UFOs, military and science mixed together, science fiction. The prologue was a decent teaser. However, despite the action in the first chapter, I couldn't get into the story.

I struggled on, tried flipping ahead hoping something would click and get me interested enough to continue reading. I wanted to add this series to my other favorites: David Weber's Honor Harrington series and James Rollins' Sigma Force series, among others. Sadly it wasn't to be. DNF

Great book, a lot like the movie Tremors but better in every way, and I love the movie Tremors. It's more realistic and has more military involvement. I like the way he includes information about the Aliens so we aren't learning along with the heroes of the story. Overall, great book, loved it!

I read this book because it was at work and I had free time. I am glad that I read it because it was a really good book, but I was trying to avoid starting a new series of books. Unfortunately it looks like I have another series to add to my too read list now

I found this book entertaining, if more than a little far-fetched. Not that I have an issue with the premise of the Event Group. Obviously, the entire notion is borderline science fiction. But the seeming indestructibility of Jack Collins and his closest compatriots does require one to suspend their disbelief a bit. I suppose, given the general themes of this book and all the others that follow it in the series, suspension of disbelief is just part of the package.

I did like it well enough to wind up reading all the rest of the books in the series this far. It has some cliched characterizations, and some inconsistencies in the characters as well. For example, it seemed to take Jack an inordinate length of time to figure out how to fight the dreaded creatures when it was immediately obvious to me from the moment that the solution was first mentioned in the story. Jack's a smart guy. I don't think the solution should have escaped him for as long as it did.

Having said all this, though, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, fast-paced read. There's plenty of action here, and the characters are quite likable. The book is somewhat predictable, but don't let that keep you away.

It took some time to get used to David's writing style. Specially the terminology in forces.
After get used to it, it went for an amazing ride throughout the whole book. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Long, wordy, overly-descriptive.
