What He Always Knew by Kandi Steiner

What He Always Knew continues of off where the first book ends. If you’ve read (SPOILER) What He Doesn’t Know then you’ll know that Cameron asks for one last chance and asks for two months to change her mind. That’s what almost majority of the second book is about. Almost being the key word here.

Just as the first book, the second book promises and delivers an emotional punch. It was phenomenal. I loved it. While, I was a bit confused from the last half of the first book which team I was in, going into the second book I knew crystal clear whom I wanted Charlie to choose.

While most might not agree, I really loved how the book ended even though a part of my heart did break. Kandi Steiner did an amazing job with the conclusion, not to mention how effortlessly she pulled off the duet. It. Was. Perfect.

There really is nothing to say other than that you HAVE TO READ the What He Doesn’t Know duet.

What an amazing conclusion to this story. I don’t think I’ve ever cried harder. It was heartbreaking, stunning, and beautiful. I think what really got was the redemption of it all. How if you really love someone and are committed to them, you’ll do anything for them. We all have trials and betrayal. How we respond in the end, says everything. This duo is definitely a new favorite.

This entire series kept me guessing WHAT THE HELL IS SHE GOING TO DO. I kept changing my mind but in the end the choice she made was absolutely the best one. Not even going to bother reading the last book as there is an age gap angle that seems weird to me.

'WHAT HE ALWAYS KNEW' is the final book in the 'What He Doesn't Know' duet and what an ending.

As another review mentioned, this is a story about choices. It is an emotional read of love, choices and the impact choices can have. It's messy, frustrating, heart-felt, hard to read (at times) and yet thought provoking.

I had my favourite at the start... but by the end of the book I was unsure of who I was really cheering for. I was so caught up in the love triangle and the ups and downs of both loves that I quickly found myself attached to both men and I didn't want to read the heartbreak that would ultimately come with the final choice... I haven't been so nervous for an ending as I was through this, I second guessed it all, but in the end the choices were made and although the journey was a messy & emotional adventure, it was beautiful.

“It’s you,” I said. “It always has been, it always will be, and from this moment on, I will choose you. Every day, every minute, every second of my life.”

(I received a copy of this book to review)

Trigger Warnings for this series include:
loss of loved ones, mention of a mass shooting, death of children, child and spousal abuse, cheating, death of a pet, rape

I went into this clueless. I read the blurb for just this book forever ago, but I trust Kandi so much that I didn’t hesitate to just jump in. She’s an automatic read for me. It just needs to have her name on the cover and I’m in. I should also note that (as of currently) I only read love triangles if they’re written by her. I’ve decided to write a joint review for book one and two. Easier to leave out spoilers that way!

I liked Cameron; that was the first decision I made. Even the more I learned about him, I always gave him the benefit of the doubt through it all. He was thoughtful, selfless. His love for Charlie poured from him. Above all else, I respected him. Even in moments of doubt, especially when I doubted Reese or Charlie. But because Reese never hesitated to place Charlie up on a pedestal in a way she could see and feel, and rightfully deserved, I was obviously playing favorites. Reese knew she lost her sparkle, the one he fell in love with. And he just wanted to return it to her. He’d be anything she needed him to be. Charlie never questioned Reese or his intentions. For all intents and purposes…she was stringing him along to have comfort. An escape. An excuse. To be reminded of the ways she deserved to be loved. And that broke my heart more than anything. All the things left unsaid were finally said. And it was ugly. And it was painful. And it was powerful. But then…it was no longer just about a broken marriage and destroyed hearts. I read dark romances for fun, and this is one of the most toxic relationships I’ve ever read. And when we got the wrench thrown in like I was waiting for, I just wanted to knock all their heads together. And then beg one of them to hold me so I didn’t have to weep alone. Lord heavens, what a journey! In a painful way, it truly is a beautiful story.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “Because you’re my home.”
• “I wish I could crawl inside that mind of yours and face all your demons for you.”
• “You’re the prettiest damn mess I’ve ever seen.”
• “It’s always been us.”

“In the end,
we were like ghosts
hanging on
to the roof of the earth.
Halfway between worlds,
too afraid to let go.”
— Beau Taplin

I’ve never been more scared to read a book in my entire life! After reading the first book I NEEDED AND CRAVED ANSWERS. Once the ARC landed on my kindle all I could do was stare at book. Eventually I put my big girl panties on and started reading.

We picked up right where we left off and it was INTENSE!! First off I love the fact that we got more backstory on Cameron and his point of view. Seeing this side of him was nice and you get to see why he is the way he is. Charlie is still stuck in a horrible position. She’s in love with two men who would move heaven and earth for her and no matter who she chooses someone’s feelings will be crushed. And no matter who she chooses she will still love them both. Even though she loves one more the love for both is still there. Talk about angst!!

I have to say in all my experiences with love triangles this is the first time my guy DID NOT GET PICKED and I’m okay with the outcome. I’m convinced it’s due to Kandi Steiner’s strength and ability as a writer. Steiner was able to have me connect to all characters and see all sides. There were no innocent parties and I loved how Steiner didn’t make one person out to be the bad guy like typical triangles. Thank you for writing such a well written and soul searching duet!

If there’s one thing I know I can always count on, it’s that Kandi Steiner will knock it out of the park with every book she ever writes. I was scared. I was hesitant. I knew going into the second book of this duet who I wanted Charlie to end up with and who was the better man for her. I never once wavered from that belief and I’m SO happy Kandi Steiner (obviously) agreed. This was so emotional, frustrating, and angsty from page one, and at times I was nervous Charlie would make the wrong (in my opinion) decision.

Love triangles are always tricky for me, but I’m happy to say (without spoilers) that this ended exactly how I would’ve hoped. Charlie picked the man who loved her selflessly and wholeheartedly, and who always put her happiness first. As she should. This duet was phenomenal, in pure Kandi Steiner fashion. Chef’s kiss.
